Kate Garraway oblivious to ‘fingering’ slip-up live on GMB while guest giggles

Joined by Tom Swarbrick, the presenter spoke to Grace Matthews, a talented young pianist who learned to play after losing her fingers following a serious illness. Grace, who previously appeared on Channel 4’s The Piano, was on the ITV breakfast show to discuss her remarkable journey. However, during their chat, Kate said: ‘People talk about the skill of fingering in the piano,’ which instantly drew a giggle from Grace. Unaware of the innuendo, Kate continued by saying: ‘Of the strength of the fingers, the spread of fingers and you just approached this head on without that.’ Reacting to the moment on social media, viewers found the cringe-inducing moment hilarious, with one user called Stepney Hammer saying: ‘Good Morning Britain took a turn this morning.’ Kate Garraway left viewers cringing with her innuendo about ‘fingering’ on Good Morning Britain (Picture: GMB/ITV) Meanwhile, Steve commented: ‘Ohhh come onnn… if a TV presenter told me I learnt the masters of “fingering” even I would have burst out laughing on that sofa.’ Elsewhere during the interview, Grace -who contracted severe meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia at four years old, which led to the amputation of all her fingers and both lower legs – explained how she had always loved music. ‘I don’t actually remember much from being ill,’ Grace said. ‘I remember Dawn, my music therapist, she would come in and play the accordion to me, and I would sit there with the tambourines.’ Grace went on to explain how she began learning to play the piano after a relative gave her a keyboard her illness. Tom also praised her attitude, telling her that her ability to overcome such a serious illness was ‘extraordinary’. To be able to think your way to overcome that is extraordinary.’ Grace’s musical talent first captured the public’s attention when she appeared on The Piano, hosted by Claudia Winkleman.
