Ram Prasath Manohar, managing director, KPTCL, said, “The platform is being developedand steps are being taken to integrate data and workflows across departments and institutions. The key objective is to bring major transactions involving power generation companies, Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL), Electricity Supply Companies (Escoms) and other stakeholders onto KPTCL-GTD.”Mr. Manohar stated that processes such as power purchase and sale, billing, energy reconciliation, banking, open access and financial settlement, which were earlier handled separately and involved considerable manual intervention, would be digitised and automated. This would reduce manual intervention and enhance transparency, accuracy, accountability and speed in power-sector transactions, he noted, adding that all the data related to power transactions, billing, energy reconciliation and financial settlement will be available for real-time viewing and monitoring.Mr. Manohar said, “It will help reduce billing discrepancies, delays in account reconciliation and data inconsistencies, while enabling faster transactions and financial settlements.”According to him, through KPTCL-GTD, power producers, power purchasers, transmission utilities and electricity supply companies will be able to manage relevant data and transactions through a common digital system. It further aims to integrate Meter Reading Interface (MRI) on this digital platform that will enable direct retrieval of meter data, along with 15-minute block-level data and interface-point information and reduce dependence on manual data entry and calculations.A digital signature and digital approval system is also proposed for bills and related documents to further reduce paper-based and manual processes on this platform. He said, “Once the system is implemented, it will improve the overall efficiency of the power sector, reduce procedural and commercial losses, and make revenue realisation more effective.”Energy and Tourism Minister K.J. George said, “The power sector involves multiple institutions and processes, from generation to distribution. Our objective is to bring key processes that were earlier handled separately and manually onto a single digital platform using advanced technology. This will make transactions more transparent, faster and seamless for all stakeholders, including power producers, purchasers, transmission utilities and distribution companies.” Published - November 01, 2026 06:58 pm IST
