After nearly a decade, CIA officer Matt Graver is still waging his war against Mexican drug cartels in Taylor Sheridan‘s Sicario cinematic universe. Josh Brolin, who starred as Matt Graver in Sicario (2015) and Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018), recently revealed that a third installment in the Sheridan-penned action thriller franchise “is happening” in the near future. The Oscar nominee told ScreenRant that production is expected to commence “soon” on the threequel. In Sicario, helmed by Denis Villeneuve, Matt Graver (Brolin) recruits FBI agent Kate (Emily Blunt) to a government task force, led by the mysterious Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro), hunting down Mexican cartel bosses in the escalating war against drugs. Watch on Deadline Along with the Stefano Sollima-directed sequel, which featured Isabela Merced in Blunt’s absence, the franchise has surpassed $160M globally. Since the last Sicario film, Sheridan has been hard at work on his Yellowstone franchise, which currently consists of spin-off series Dutton Ranch and Marshals, as well as his standalone shows Landman, The Madison, Lioness, Tulsa King and Mayor of Kingstown.
