(Credits: PTI)New Delhi,Oct 15, 2026 19:25 ISTJio Platforms is preparing for the next phase of telecom technology, with 6G expected to roll out commercially in the early 2030s. The company is also looking to take its technology stack to international markets through partnerships, rather than entering new markets on its own.Speaking at the Jio IPO Media Meet, Akash Ambani, Managing Director of Jio Platforms Ltd, said the company was contributing to the development of 6G standards and saw its technology platform opening up opportunities both in India and overseas.JIO EXPECTS COMMERCIAL 6G ROLLOUT IN EARLY 2030sAmbani said 6G technology was still in the pre-standardisation phase, with standards likely to be established around 2029. Commercial rollouts are expected to begin in the early 2030s.He said Jio sees 6G largely as a software upgrade and will continue investing in its end-to-end technology stack. “For us, 6G is going to be a software upgrade. What we'll continue to invest in is our deep end-to-end technology stack,” Ambani said.He added that Jio's broader mission was to use technology to improve people's lives and make it accessible to every Indian.JIO PLANS GLOBAL EXPANSION THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS Jio Platforms is looking to expand its international presence by partnering with local players, rather than directly entering new markets. He said, “It's a unique platform that we have launched, and our business model makes it very, very different than just selling a hardware technology or a software license, but becoming a managed service partner for local players.”Ambani said the company already operates its end-to-end technology stack on its own network and wants to identify suitable partners who can use the platform in their respective markets.“We don't believe that we need to go and enter new markets. We believe that the technology and the end-to-end stack itself enables new market opportunity for those partners,” he said.FOUR KEY AREAS OF GROWTH FOR JIOAmbani outlined four key areas of opportunity for Jio Platforms: mobile services, home connectivity, enterprise solutions and monetisation of its core technologies. He said the company's end-to-end technology stack gives it the ability to participate across the technology value chain, creating opportunities beyond its existing telecom business.Ambani also highlighted the potential for India to become an exporter of technology rather than relying on imports. The strategy reflects Jio's ambition to use its technology capabilities not only to serve Indian customers but also to build opportunities in global markets through partnerships.- Ends
