‘I’ve spent over £75,000 on plastic surgery and had six ribs removed’

But for one woman, Anakaliyah Mooi, she has spent years – and an eye-watering sum – altering her body. What started as a breast augmentation in her teens – after what she describes as a conservative, Catholic upbringing – has resulted in years of cosmetic procedures and modifications. ‘I told myself that as soon as I turned 18, I was getting a boob job. That was the very first thing I did,’ said Anakaliyah. ‘I consider my body a work of art. To me, it’s a true expression of beauty.’ The 5’3” social media influencer from Florida has transformed herself by having four breast augmentations, taking her bra size from an A-cup to 34H, as well as undergoing rhinoplasty, veneers and butt fillers. The 29-year-old also had six ribs removed before travelling to Peru in September 2025 for a controversial waist-narrowing operation, which can cost between £7,000 and £15,000. The technique involves partially fracturing selected ribs before patients then put on a corset during recovery to help reshape their waist, rather than having ribs surgically removed – although Anakaliyah has done both. ‘I wanted the higher ribs done because most doctors only work on ribs 10, 11 and 12, which I’d already had removed,’ Anakaliyah explained. ‘My surgery lasted around 30 to 45 minutes, and I stayed in Peru for 10 days.’ According to Delta Clinics, there has been a marked increase in demand for body contouring procedures in 2026, such as ‘Barbie waist’ surgery, which reshapes the lower ribs to create a significantly smaller waistline. Just last month, MAFS Australia star Bec Zacahria, announced she was travelling to Bali last month for a ‘Barbie waist’, after thinking ‘long and hard’ about getting the procedure. However, rib contouring has been regarded by experts in a medical review as lacking evidence of ‘long-term safety.’ According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, risks of having the procedure include pneumothorax (when air leaks into the space between your lung and chest wall), nerve irritation and failure of the rib’s bone cortex healing. Anakaliyah, who now has a 23-inch waist (which is 10 inches smaller than the UK average), insists that discipline after her surgery was just as important as the operation itself. ‘About 70% of results come from wearing your corset properly, following your diet and taking care of yourself afterwards,’ she explained. I was sore for about two weeks, and that was it,’ she said. ‘This recovery has been much harder. I still can’t twist properly, and if I stretch I still feel pain.’ Posting as @‌anakaliyah.goddess on TikTok, Anakaliyah has explained that while she was never unhappy with the way she looked, she’d always dreamed of having larger breasts, describing herself as a “late bloomer.” ‘I’ve always loved myself, I just believe there’s always room for improvement.’ On her TikTok, she’s said she doesn’t want to look ‘natural,’ adding, ‘If I’ve had surgery, I want it to look like I’ve had surgery.’ Anakaliyah also admitted she has ‘boob greed,’ clarifying, ‘I just wanted to go bigger and bigger and bigger.’ Her latest breast augmentation surgery involved expandable implants that can be periodically filled, and today they weigh around 8lbs. ‘I’m permanently carrying around £9,100 worth of implants,’ she said. She claims she rarely travels, doesn’t drink and spends very little on designer goods because almost everything goes towards surgery. She’s also worked on OnlyFans for the last five years to raise money for her operations ‘I don’t really live a luxurious lifestyle,’ she explained. ‘I save almost everything for surgery. My priorities right now are paying off my house and my plastic surgery.’ Anakaliyah began documenting her surgeries after her rib removal because she felt people were often too afraid to speak openly about cosmetic procedures. However, while many of her supporters enjoy following her transformation, sharing online has also brought criticism, with commenters accusing her of taking surgery too far. ‘Mostly the negative comments come from women. That actually makes me sad because I think women should uplift each other,’ she said. Although Anakaliyah believes she is ‘about 90% complete,’ she has no plans to stop having cosmetic surgery altogether. As well as aiming for a 22-inch waist, next on her list is a lip lift and larger anime-inspired eyes. ‘Eventually ageing is going to happen, and there will probably be plastic surgery to fix those problems,’ she added. ‘So no, I don’t think I’ll ever stop having plastic surgery.’ Dangers of extensive plastic surgery ‘Cosmetic surgery can be safe when carried out by a qualified surgeon. But every operation carries risks. The more extensive the surgery, or the more procedures you have at the same time, the greater the chance of complications,’ health expert, Thorrun Govind, tells Metro ‘Complications can include infection, blood clots, bleeding and problems with anaesthetic.’ Thorrun adds: ‘Cosmetic surgery should be an informed choice, not one driven by social media or unrealistic beauty standards. I am very concerned about how social media is fuelling trends like the “Barbie waist”, where extreme body proportions are being presented as an ideal. ‘Rib removal surgery is an extremely invasive procedure and is not a standard cosmetic operation.
