It's Official, Wolverine Is Facing Marvel's Dark New Hulk In Epic Series

Published Sep 19, 2026, 4:00 PM EDT Adam has been writing in the entertainment news space for over a decade. Beginning his career of covering film and TV at CinemaBlend, he has also appeared on The Flash Podcast and done several radio spots. Hulk and Wolverine go all the way back to the latter character’s beginnings at Marvel. In 1974’s The Incredible Hulk #180 and #181, the mutant also known as Logan, who hasn’t joined the X-Men yet, was tasked by the Canadian government to stop the fight between the Green Goliath and the Wendigo. This kicked off the Hulk vs. Wolverine rivalry that has seen them repeatedly come to blows in the subsequent decades. Although Hulk obviously has Wolverine beat when it comes to sheer strength, the popular X-Man uses his adamantium claws to put up a decent fight, as the near-indestructible metal can pierce even Hulk’s skin. The time has come for their latest rematch, but this one will look a lot different than their previous battles. That’s because Wolverine will be tangling with the dark Hulk, who is now a force of pure evil. Wolverine Fights Infernal Hulk For The First Time Infernal Hulk Vs. Wolverine #1, Written By Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Art By Jonas Scharf, Cover Art By Nic Klein The Hulk/Bruce Banner relationship was destroyed last year when the entity Eldest separated the two of them, then possessed Hulk’s body. Since then, the corrupted Hulk has been wreaking havoc across the Marvel universe, and the next stage of his reign of terror will unfold in a series of one-shots where he battles various superheroes. The preview for the first, Infernal Hulk vs. Wolverine #1, sees Wolverine coming face to face with this new Hulk as he searches for missing X-Men Glob Herman and Jamie Madrox, a.k.a. Multiple Man. Eldest mentions having crossed paths with Wolverine during an unspecified event in Damascus “an age ago,” but Wolverine doesn’t recall having met this entity. The Infernal Hulk nonetheless wants Wolverine to join him in subjugating Earth, and informs him that Glob and Jamie are spreading his “garden of war elsewhere.” Noting that Eldest would know that he wouldn’t agree to such an alliance if they had met before, Wolverine slashes Hulk’s face and draws blood, though it’s unclear if this first blow dealt any significant damage. The Outcome Of His Hulk Vs. Wolverine Fight Has Already Been Revealed Infernal Hulk Vs. Wolverine #1, Variant Cover Art By Juan Ferreyra Marvel Comics Hulk has always been one of the strongest Marvel characters, and he’s climbed even higher in that lineup since Eldest took control of his body. Wolverine’s no slouch either, with his claws, healing factor, enhanced senses, savage fighting style, and even learning a few years back that he's capable of taking down Hulk with a chokehold once he's worn the behemoth down. Unfortunately for him, this will be one of those Hulk vs. Wolverine collisions that doesn’t go well for the latter. Marvel teased that Infernal Hulk vs. Wolverine #1, Infernal Hulk vs. Fantastic Four #1, Infernal Hulk vs. Spider-Man #1, and Infernal Hulk vs. The Avengers #1 will each deliver “a brutal victory that brings Infernal Hulk one smash closer to remaking the Marvel Universe in his twisted image.” Even worse, the one-shots will also show the Eldest-possessed Hulk assembling “an army of corrupted, monstrous champions,” though it’s unclear if this includes Wolverine or any of the other opposing characters in these issues. These Infernal Hulk one-shots serve as the penultimate chapter of the Infernal Saga that began with 2023’s Incredible Hulk #1. They also lead into the crossover event Hulk War, which begins in early 2027. Whatever specifically happens between Hulk and Wolverine this time around, it’s just opening salvo of the devastation coming in the months ahead. It also stands to reason this won’t be the last time these two fight, as their violent dynamic remains entertaining more than 50 years after they first clashed. Infernal Hulk Vs. Wolverine #1 will be released Wednesday, September 23 by Marvel Comics. Created By Stan Lee, Jack Kirby First Appearance The Incredible Hulk (1962) Alias Robert Bruce Banner Alliance Avengers, Defenders, Horsemen of Apocalypse, Fantastic Four, Pantheon, Warbound, S.M.A.S.H., Secret Avengers Franchise Marvel
