It's Official, We Have a New Current James Bond To Replace Daniel Craig

Depending on who you ask, everybody has their favorite James Bond. Whilst the older generation may believe actors such as Sean Connery were the ultimate 007, younger audiences would probably tell you that Daniel Craig is the one and only Bond. However, with Craig hanging up his service pistol at the end of 2021's No Time To Die, and the James Bond franchise being handed over to Amazon MGM Studios in February 2025, fans are left wondering when the next actor will be announced. It's The Start Of A New Era For James Bond Since Craig's departure, rumors and fan-favorites have been rife, with actors such as Aaron Taylor Johnson, Idris Elba, Callum Turner, and Jacob Elordi to name but a few being front-runners. However, with no official confirmation of even a hint from Amazon, the role remains firmly open. That being said, it was back in May 2026 that fans were treated to Bond's origin story courtesy of video game 007: First Light. Developed by IO Interactive, the action-adventure game introduced us to a much younger Bond, showing us how he came to work for MI6, and even how he adopted the famous 007 moniker. The role was brought to life by Irish actor Patrick Gibson, who is perhaps best known for his role as a young Dexter in Dexter: Original Sin. However, 007: First Light has no doubt served as even more of a breakout role, with fans now agreeing that Gibson should be our next live-action Bond after his incredible performance. "So, can we now officially say that Patrick Gibson has taken over from Daniel Craig as the current James Bond 007?" One Twitter/X user asked back in May. As you can imagine, as is the case with having any opinion on social media, it was met with mixed reviews, but it seems as though plenty of fans agree with this sentiment. Patrick Gibson Is The Perfect Bond For 2026 "Genuinely, after a few hours, I wish he was the new mainline Bond," one comment read. "He isn't an established name at all, so he won't be, but he's brought a real boyish pulp adventure hero charm with his portrayal of Bond." Another agreed, saying, "Amazon MGM Studio should just cast him in the movie and connect the game to it." With one user saying, "I was kind of hoping that the game would end with “Patrick Gibson will appear as Bond in ‘movie name’", it seems as though Gibson truly made an impact. In my opinion, as a fan of 007: First Light and the Bond franchise as a whole, I think Gibson would be an excellent addition. I am all for unknown actors getting such big roles, and I truly believe that he encapsulated all that Bond is, whilst adding the vulnerability that a younger Bond would have. Hopefully, Gibson's performance will be taken into account when Amazon releases the next James Bond movie. Fingers crossed.
