Is Casualty on tonight? When it’s back and next on TV confirmed

The much-loved BBC One medical drama returned to screens last week, six weeks after the conclusion of its Lethal Legacy boxset, to celebrate four decades of the ED. The 40th anniversary double-bill was everything fans could’ve hoped for and more, with dramatic scenes aplenty as an explosion in the city put lives in peril and left our doctors facing one of their biggest challenges to date. Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) and Flynn Byron (Olly Rix), meanwhile, were left fighting for their lives after their ambulance plunged from a cliffside into the icy depths of a quarry. Familiar faces including Charlie Fairhead (Derek Thompson) and Ethan Hardy (George Rainsford) staged a return, while Dylan Keogh (William Beck) endured a devastating tragedy with the loss of ex Sophia Peters (Kellie Shirley), who died in the wake of the blast. The scene was very much set for what was to follow – but sadly the subsequent episodes are not available just yet, with Casualty set to go on another hiatus. Why is Casualty not on tonight and when is it back? Casualty is not on tonight because it returned to screens for one week only simply to celebrate its 40th anniversary. Much like it does every autumn, it will now go on a hiatus amid Strictly Come Dancing’s run. It will return to TV sometime next year with a brand new series. Confirmation of its return next year came during the end credits of the 40th anniversary, with the BBC One announcer stating that the ‘best is yet to come’. The 40th marked the end of one era – with the clever tag line of: Life begins at 40 -with future episodes thought to signify the beginning of a refreshed, exciting one for the BBC medical drama. While little is known about what’s in store upon its comeback to TV, star Olly Rix talked to Metro about what’s next for Flynn and Stevie. ‘Part of the fun of Flynn and Stevie’s dynamic is that everybody sees it but them,’ he said with a smile. ‘They are the last to realise it’.
