There is nothing official about it, but the iPhone 17 is running low on stock in India. The phone is mostly unavailable on popular e-commerce sites. Offline dealers tell India Today Tech that fresh supply is expected in August but price may also increase. The iPhone 17 is running low on stock in India, and some believe that it could get a price hike soon.Blame it all on Sam Altman. Or Dario Amodei. Or ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. Irrespective of who you blame, chances are that in August if you buy an iPhone, or iPhone 17 to be specific, you will be paying slightly more. And currently, if you aim to buy the iPhone 17, chances are that you will not find one in stock. The iPhone 17 stock is running low in India because the supply, according to phone dealers, is no longer coming for the last few weeks. On e-commerce websites, the phone is mostly out of stock, whereas in offline channels it is available but not in all places. In fact, not even the official Apple Store in Noida has the phone in stock. The Delhi store in Saket has it, and you can also order the phone through the online Apple Store, but the delivery estimate for that order is currently 2 to 3 weeks.More significantly, there is strong chatter that Apple is expected to increase the price of the iPhone 17 soon, along with the price of other iPhones. This is because of the current RAM and component shortage that has impacted the entire smartphone and laptop market.A few weeks earlier, Apple raised the prices of MacBooks and iPads in India and globally. But the iPhone was spared. Now, the company is seemingly increasing the iPhone prices. In Japan, the iPhone is already 10 to 11 per cent more expensive, and a similar increase in price is expected in India in coming weeks. "Yes, there's a shortage. The iPhone 17 hasn't been available for the last week, and the shortage might continue for another week or more," Kailash Lakhyani, Founder Chairman of the All India Mobile Retailers Association (AIMRA), told India Today Tech.Apple Store Noida informed us that the iPhone 17 was “not available as of now due to high demand,” though the store representative said that we could order it online via the Apple website. The Apple Store in Saket, New Delhi, had the iPhone 17 in stock when we enquired. Apple resellers in Delhi NCR too have the iPhone 17 in stock, but in limited numbers. One dealer suggested that the iPhone 17 “supply has stopped since the Japan price hike.” At the time of writing, the iPhone 17 is unavailable or out of stock on select online platforms – Amazon, Vijay Sales, Croma, Reliance Digital to name a few. There are also rumours that some iPhone dealers are hoarding the current stock of the iPhone 17 to sell when the price increases. But Kailash Lakhyani dismissed such claims. “There is no point in holding. Even if a dealer does, he has no benefit. Whether you sell it now or later, you have to sell it in MRP (printed on the box)” he explained.iPhone 17 price hike in August?Meanwhile, online chatter suggests that iPhone 17 price hike is imminent. Tipster Abhishek Yadav, who is popular on social media for leaking phone industry details, claims Apple has informed iPlanet dealers that the standard iPhone 17 could see a price increase from the first week of August. In a post on X, Yadav wrote that Apple has told iPlanet dealers the iPhone 17 could start at Rs 94,990, up from its original launch price of Rs 82,990. That would mean a Rs 12,000 jump. He also claimed that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max could receive similar price increases. There are hints that Apple could be planning to coincide with the price hike announcement when the fresh supply comes in. India Today Tech spoke to multiple retailers across Delhi-NCR, and most of them echoed a similar message. Some retailers estimated that the iPhone 17 Pro models could become Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000 more expensive, though none of them claimed to have official confirmation from Apple. For reference, the iPhone 17 Pro launched in India at Rs 1,34,900, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max debuted at Rs 1,49,900.At the moment, Apple has not commented on the stock of the iPhone 17 in India. The company also continues to sell the latest iPhones at their old prices on its online store even though their delivery dates are running into weeks instead of days.Counterpoint Research Director Tarun Pathak told India Today Tech that a price revision is likely, even if the timing remains uncertain. "There will be a price hike at some point as we have seen with Apple in Japan and some other markets. More so in markets where currency headwinds are there and India is one of those markets. 8-12 per cent is still an acceptable range looking at wider 15-20 percent hikes we have already seen and likely to go up further," he told India Today Tech.Pathak added that retailers have also told him the "price hikes might happen soon."The entire smartphone industry is currently going through a price-correction phase as components like chipsets, RAM and storage have become extremely expensive due to demand from AI companies. Almost all phone makers have increased prices in recent months, or they have discontinued phones to replace them with newer models that have similar specs and features but higher prices. So far, Apple has been the only company that has not increased the prices on its phones.- EndsPublished By: Armaan AgarwalPublished On: Jul 23, 2026 15:17 IST
