Inside Pregnant Natalie Portman's Private World With Tanguy Destable

Pregnant Natalie Portman Shares Rare Look at Her Life in Paris Away From HollywoodNatalie Portman's new chapter does have some strings attached. About a year after finding l'amour with French musician Tanguy Destable, the Oscar winner confirmed she is pregnant. "Tanguy and I are very excited,” Portman, now officially counting down the days to her little one's arrival, told Harper's Bazaar in April. "I'm just very grateful. I know it’s such a privilege and a miracle." The 45-year-old—also mom to son Aleph, 15, and daughter Amalia, 9, with ex-husband Benjamin Millepied—said she had "more energy than I thought I might" and was spending lots of time with her kids, “which is always the best.” While Paris in springtime is never a bad choice, Portman added, "In France, they consider full-term to be 41 weeks rather than 40, so I guess I get an extra week to be pregnant this time around." And, having already completed her next couple of films, she's been busy enjoying where the heart is.A June birthday trip to Italy was heavy on the museum trips and pasta, but of course there's plenty of culture to soak in at home, Portman showing off visits to the Picasso Museum, Grand Palais and the Fondation Louis Vuitton in a May Instagram post. And a few months after Disneyland Paris opened their new World of Frozen, the actress ventured into the unknown for what she called "an unforgettable day in Arendelle!" While Aleph and Amalia didn't show themselves in Portman's pic with Minnie Mouse, they're a big part of the magic in her life. "My kids are always a source of excitement, because you just see them develop into the individuals they are," she told Interview last year. "I've been spending a lot of time with my friends, with their kids and my kids. That’s pretty fun."Dominique Charriau/WireImageAmong the people she was spending time with was Destable, a father of two—sons Étienne and Vadim shared with French actress Louise Bourgoin—and electronic music artist from Morlaix who performs and produces as Tepr. Portman has been splitting her time between the City of Light and Los Angeles since her divorce from Millepied was finalized in March 2024. She and the Bordeaux-born choreographer met making Black Swan in 2010, and she was pregnant with Aleph when she won every major award for her performance as a psychologically unravelling ballerina. While the May December star giddily shared at the time how art and life got all mixed up during that production, she's usually much more protective of her private world. “My work demands me to be believable," she told The Guardian in July 2024, "so the less people know about me personally the better.”Though she admitted she's not an especially private person in reality, "in public, it was so clear early on that if you tell people how private you are, your privacy gets respected a lot more," she told Interview. "I set up a little bit of a barrier to be like, 'I’m not going to do photo shoots with my kids.'"Todd Owyoung/NBC via Getty ImagesHowever, there might be clues as to what's happening in real life in the projects she picks. "I’m drawn to things because of what’s happening in my personal life," Portman said. "It’s actually counterintuitive because to do emotionally difficult material, my real life has to be pretty chill, no major issues. You want to find that joy and lightness and humor in your work when things are harder at home." Acting is "a way to get to live a lot of different lives," the former child star, who was 11 when she was cast in her 1994 breakout film The Professional, reflected. "And yeah, I think there’s also a lot of different relational things that I’ve gotten out of doing emotional work on characters—about the power of stories in building identity, about the importance of attention in love, and the choices you make."Jose Perez/Bauer-Griffin/GC ImagesAs for when she's not on camera, Portman told Vanity Fair in February 2024, "I think it’s nice to have people in my life who are like, 'We want you to be you.'" She had quietly separated from Millepied already, filing for divorce the previous summer, but being in Paris was "just a dream," Portman raved. "I’m so lucky to get to live here and have an enormously stimulating city life with incredible friends." Paris also proved to be fertile ground for love to grow. "There’s a calm and knowing myself: who I want to spend time with, what kind of energy I want around me that makes the experience so beautiful every day," she told Harper's Bazaar. "And knowing it’s probably the last time [being pregnant], I cherish every moment."As she enters the home stretch ("Counting the days until we meet you," she captioned a July 29 glimpse of her maternity shoot), Portman is also giving herself the gift of knowing she and Destable don’t have to stock up on baby books. "You figure it out," the star noted. "We’re going to make lots of mistakes, no matter how hard we try. And also, we’re going to do a lot right without having to do research. I feel like if you’re just present and loving, that’s the best thing possible."
