(Photo: Instagram)An Indian-origin woman living in Dubai has drawn attention to the difference in healthcare experiences after comparing a recent hospital visit there with a much longer wait she recalled during an emergency visit in the UK.Mirutula Sivakumar shared her experience in a video on Instagram, describing how quickly she was treated after hurting her leg.According to Sivakumar, the initial consultation took just five minutes. She said the hospital then completed the rest of the process, including putting her leg in a cast and providing medication, within the next hour.“I hurt my leg, so I came to the hospital. It took me 5 minutes for consultation, and the whole process took one hour. They even asked if I have flat feet, and they did the cast accordingly,” she said. What particularly stood out to her was the way her medical information was documented. Sivakumar said the hospital gave her a CD containing her medical information, which she could take to another hospital if required. She also received her medication as part of the treatment. For Sivakumar, the experience brought back memories of seeking emergency medical care in the UK. “All of this took within one hour. I remember being in the UK, in the emergency room, waiting for six hours for a consultation,” she said. She contrasted that wait with the speed of the treatment she received in Dubai, describing herself as fortunate to have access to the healthcare system there.“I’m really, truly blessed to call this place my home. The healthcare here, this is something that you cannot take for granted,” she said.Sivakumar captioned the video, “Have been spoilt by this city for 20+ years and I’m truly grateful to call this place my home.”Watch the video here:Her comparison quickly prompted discussion online, with several users sharing their own experiences of seeking medical care in both the UAE and the UK. While individual waiting times can vary considerably depending on the hospital, emergency department, time of day and severity of the condition, Sivakumar’s experience has nonetheless opened up a broader conversation about accessibility, efficiency and patient experience. For her, however, the comparison came down to something simple: after an injury, she expected to spend hours waiting. Instead, she was back with treatment, medication and her medical records within an hour, an experience she clearly did not take for granted.- EndsPublished By: Srimoyee ChowdhuryPublished On: Aug 10, 2026 16:27 IST
