I tested the top miniature bottles of wine at the supermarket… top choice is great value and a perfect treat

MINIATURE bottles of wine have hit the big time. UK sales are on the up as more vino drinkers choose to make their tipple a small one. Andrew Peace Shiraz 187ml, £2.30, Tesco – 4/5 Andrew Peace Shiraz is super value and very drinkable and scored 4 out of 5 Credit: Supplied THIS is a reliable Aussie brand for the cash, and it is great to see it in mini bottles. You get a single-serve glass of shiraz, or the equivalent of a quarter of a normal-sized bottle. The fun-sized option is faithful to the 75cl version, with plenty of jammy plum and peppery spice. It’s super value and very drinkable. Perfect for a one-glass only hit when you don’t want to open a bigger bottle of red. It would be lovely enjoyed with a midweek spag bol or cottage pie – or even sipped on the sofa without any temptation to keep pouring just one glass more. Most read in Money Wairau Cove Sauvignon 187ml, £2.80, Tesco – 4/5 Wairau Cove Sauvignon is is fresh, zesty and slightly tropical and scored full 4 out of 5 Credit: Supplied SAUVIGNON blanc can be a little hit and miss in smaller formats, as the grassiness can get a tad funky. But here, the wine is fresh, zesty and slightly tropical. A decent, classic Marlborough style that is crisp and dry but with substance. You won’t find this one too overpowering, either. Lovely with a goats’ cheese salad or even if you are after a cheeky weekend lunchtime drop. A crowd-pleasing tipple that is ideal to keep in the fridge for when you fancy a taste of crisp, cold white but know you need to stop at one. It is very well priced too. Poco Vino Pinot Noir 187ml, £3.75, Morrisons – 5/5 Poco Vino Pinot Noir is more expensive than some but makes up for it in flavour and flair and scored full marks Credit: Supplied THIS one is your splash-out single serve – but in this case, the contents justify the cash. The range of Poco Vino wine bottles look super smart with different colours, and the juice inside is not bad either. This pinot noir hails from the Languedoc region in sunny, southern France, so expect a fuller-bodied, dark-cherry style with cinnamon spiciness. Small by name as well as nature, it is more expensive than some but makes up for it in flavour and flair. If you are going to savour one glass only then this is a good red to go for. And it’s still well under the price you will pay for one glass of wine in a pub. Freixenet Prosecco 200ml, £3.90, Sainsbury’s – 3/5 Freixenet Prosecco is a decent drop to celebrate, it tastes good and scored 3 out of 5 Credit: Supplied FUN-sized fizz can be a great option when you only fancy a single flute for a toast, a gift, or perhaps want a portable sparkling option to take on the train to a party. This way, you don’t end up with half a bottle of bubbles left over in the fridge going flat, either. Official cork poppers like this prosecco DOC will always come with a higher price tag, and the pretty bottle brings glam with its cut-glass look. What’s inside is a decent drop to celebrate, and it tastes good. Still fairly sweet and simple but it is fresh and frothy. Stick a straw in it and it’s got Girl’s Night Out written all over it. Finca Miguel Cava 200ml, £3.50, M&S – 5/5 Finca Miguel Cava is cracking and scored full marks Credit: Supplied SPANISH sparkling wine, cava, is having a comeback on the fizz front, as people see what great value it is. And this M&S version is cracking, even in mini bottle form. Savoury and flavoursome with notes of toast and pineapple, this is your class-in-a-single glass option. It is food-friendly too and goes great with salted nuts, salami and hard cheese. It would be great to drink on the go and, at 200ml, it is larger than your average 125ml glass of fizz. Perfect for when you want to treat yourself to a glass of fancier froth without the risk of letting the rest go flat and having to tip it away. La Vieille Ferme Rose 187ml, £3, Asda – 4/5 La Vieille Ferme Rose has crunchy red fruit notes, a moreish textural weight and scored 4 out of 5 Credit: Supplied THIS pale pastel viral vino known as “chicken wine” for its rooster on the label, has got the mini treatment too. But what is inside is just as good as the bigger bottle, with its crunchy red fruit notes and a moreish textural weight. The booze hasn’t been skimmed off for tax reasons either, and it remains at 12.5 per cent. It is pricier than many but not that steep for a single purchase. Plus, you can rely on the brand name here, which hails from the Rhone Valley. If, like many pink-drinkers, this is your favourite label, it is the perfect portion control or pound-saving buy.
