More importantly, he's still waiting for a new Ape Escape game to release. In Star Wars Zero Company, you will come across all types of enemies who want to make you past tense. From battle droids to pirates to a virus-worshipping cult, it's critical to scrounge up any advantage you can to survive. Enter Utilities: finite items such as Thermal Detonators, Trauma Kits, and unique weapons you can use during combat. These items can make a huge difference in combat and can help carry you through some pretty tough encounters. Here's everything you need to know about Utilities, how to unlock more slots, and where to find them. What Are Utilities? Simply put, Utilities are consumable items that (usually) have a finite number of charges you can use during a combat encounter. For example, if I equip an Operator with an Impact Grenade, they can only use this item once in a battle. This does not mean that the Impact Grenade will vanish entirely if used, as Utilities persist between missions. Additionally, during missions with multiple combat encounters, all your Utilities will become fully restocked, allowing you to use them again. Because of this, you should always try to use whatever Utilities you bring in that can damage or outright kill enemies, since you won't need to worry about rationing them throughout an entire mission. As for the Utilities themselves, they can be more or less separated into three categories: explosives, support items, and weapons. Explosives are items such as Thermal Detonators, Firebombs, and Concussion Grenades, which can be thrown by operators at enemies and detonate upon impact. These can have additional properties beyond damage, such as setting targets on fire or displacing them via knockback. Support items are largely used to heal or provide tactical advantages in combat. Medpacs act as a quick way to recover from damage, while a Repulsor Unit gives your team more movement distance for a turn. Finally, weapons are more situational tools, such as the shotgun-style Scattergun or the Ion Blaster, which is fantastic against Droids. Any piece of Utility can be equipped to any operator, and you can carry more than one of the same type, provided you have enough slots. Additionally, the Medic and Astromech Specializations can carry two charges for Utility items, while the rest can only hold one. Use this to your advantage to stack these operators with key items like Medpacs or hard-hitting explosives. How To Get Utility Items When it comes to getting Utilities, there are several ways to obtain them during a playthrough. Before we go into more detail, here's a quick breakdown of all the methods for obtaining new Utilities: Rewards from Missions Rewards from Operations The Black Market Influence Zone Rewards Of these methods, your main ways to get Utilities early on will be through the Black Market and completing Missions. The Black Market is the game's store, which often sells multiple Utility items for Credits. The items in the Black Market refresh each cycle, and there's no guarantee about what will be in the shop. Also, the number of items sold and their quality can be upgraded through the Den's upgrade system or via Zone rewards. Another consistent method for getting new Utilities is by completing Operations or Missions. These items are typically part of the rewards, and you can amass quite a collection by just partaking in side missions at the holotable whenever you have free time between campaign levels. Remember, you won't typically be able to see what the rewards are for Operations, so there is more of a gamble for what you'll get from these. Finally, some strong Utilities are tied to the Zone rewards system. As you earn more Influence, you will increase your standing within twelve different zones. Each of these zones can be leveled up three times, each of which will earn you a reward. These rewards often contain Utilities such as the Wildfire Modulator, which will apply four stacks of Burning whenever you successfully hit an enemy. Think of these more as stretch goals, as the Zone rewards are some of the stronger items in Zero Company. How To Get More Utility Slots At the start of the game, you will only have one slot for Utilities available for each operator. This, thankfully, can be upgraded, allowing you to have up to three Utility items for every single character. Unsurprisingly, this is incredibly strong and gives you a ton of flexibility during combat. Here is a quick breakdown of how to unlock all three Utility slots: Build the Additional Utility Slot in the Den Pick the Utility Slot option during the Underworld Intel Choice Operation. There are two ways to get additional Utility Slots; however, one won't be available until much later in the campaign. Your first opportunity to expand your arsenal is to upgrade the Den to Level 5, then purchase the Additional Utility Slot in the Crew tab. This will cost you a couple of thousand credits, and you'll need to complete a mission for the build to complete. Your second method is a little trickier, since you will first have to progress through the campaign enough to trigger the Underworld Intel Operation. When this happens, you will be given the choice between either unlocking a Utility Slot or an additional Weapon Mod Slot. You cannot have both, and picking one will lock you out of the other. Because of this, I recommend choosing based on your key team composition. For example, if you use an Astromech, it will behoove you to have that third Utility Slot so it can carry more grenades. Think about what you need in the long run before committing, as there's no other way to unlock that third Utility Slot.
