More importantly, he's still waiting for a new Ape Escape game to release. Get ready for war, because Hell Let Loose: Vietnam has finally been released. This large-scale multiplayer game pits the NVA vs the US across four game modes and multiple maps in chaotic battles for territory. Focused heavily on communication and working with your squad to complete objectives, some players will want to know if they can game with their friends on other systems. Enter crossplay, a feature that was pretty limited in the original but has been fully integrated into Hell Let Loose: Vietnam. This has some great pros, but some obvious cons as well that may leave some wondering if it's worth disabling. Here is everything you need to know about crossplay, how to turn it off, and if you should keep it enabled. What Is Crossplay? Essentially, crossplay allows players on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC to all participate in the same matches as one another. There are no limitations to how many console or PC players you can have in a single lobby, and if someone is on console, there will be a controller icon next to their name. For those on console (or using a controller on PC), you will have aim assist, and the developers have confirmed that it's the same values as the original Hell Let Loose. How To Turn Off Crossplay Thankfully, for those who do not want to play with either console or PC players, there are a couple of ways to turn off crossplay. The first is by simply clicking the Gear icon in the top right corner of your menu, going to "General", and then selecting the "Crossplay" option. Turn this to "Off" to disable crossplay for your game, limiting you to either console-only or PC-only lobbies. Make sure to hit the Apply Settings key; otherwise, the game won't save this change! Once you enable this, refresh the server list to find matches that are only using your specific input. Keep in mind, the player pool for this will be diminished since most of the playerbase just seems to keep crossplay enabled. Another way to disable crossplay is by selecting Enlist from the main menu and then clicking the "Server Type" tab on the right side. From there, you can pick whether you want Console Only, PC Only, or PC and Console. It will have crossplay enabled by default, so make sure to check what you want in Server Type if you don't want to play with others on a different platform. Crossplay Pros And Cons Whether you want crossplay enabled or not mostly comes down to your personal tolerance for aim assist if you're on PC. Since controller players have aim assist, this can cause some friction, since you aren't entirely reliant on your own ability to aim like you would if you're using a keyboard and mouse. Based on my own (admittedly entirely anecdotal) experience, there are quite a few players who are playing on console, which means you'll pretty frequently run into controller users. Because of this, if you want to largely ignore this feature, then it might be worth turning off crossplay. That being said, disabling crossplay doesn't mean people on PC cannot use controllers. Turning it off limits the platforms you'll connect with, not the direct input someone uses. As for keeping it on, the biggest benefit is the sheer volume of servers available to you. There appear to be no official servers dedicated to only one input or another, so you'll be queuing into private servers that someone else has set up. Having crossplay enabled allows you to consistently find games faster and gives you access to all the game's Official Servers. While there are no penalties to disabling crossplay, you'll just need to accept that it comes with being limited in where you can play. That being said, if you're just a casual player, I would keep crossplay enabled, since ensuring your matches are always full is ultimately more important in a multiplayer game that relies heavily on scale.
