Sign in to your TheGamer account Offering a prequel that returns the series to its gritty roots with Gears of War: E-Day, Xbox's newest entry in its flagship third-person shooter series is easily one of the most anticipated games of 2026. Although we're still a ways off from its official release, Gears of War: E-Day recently dropped a surprise for Xbox fans everywhere that will be available even sooner than the highly anticipated prequel. Announced on the official Xbox site, Gears of War: E-Day is being added to the hall of fame for accessory collaborations in the form of two limited-edition controller designs, both of which are beautifully detailed after the brutal world we've come to expect from the Gears of War franchise. Xbox's Newest Controllers Look Absolutely Gorgeous Offering two controller variants in the form of a standalone Xbox Wireless Controller for $89.99 and a Limited Edition Xbox Design Lab variant, both are available now for pre-order and scheduled to ship out on September 30, just a week before the actual release for Gears of War: E-Day itself. With the standalone controller designed to replicate a Locust emergence, the limited-edition accessory offers fully blacked-out ABXY buttons minus a transparent red X and D-Pad, both of which have a subtle cross design underneath their shell. As if the blacked-out buttons weren't unique enough, the cracked design on the front is a laser-etched 3D mold that adds even more depth and texture to the controller to help it stand out from Xbox's previous collaborations. If you're a Gears of War fan who wants to customize your themed controller even further, the Design Lab limited-edition variant will also be going live at the same time on Xbox's official store, offering a top case that features three Locust skulls with Chainsaw Lancers in between them designed by UK-based heavy metal illustrator Luke Preece. The Perfect Companion For When E-Day Releases While the controllers unfortunately won't be releasing in time for the pre-release tests starting this month, you'll still be able to snag both designs either through the official Xbox Store or the standalone Xbox Wireless Controller from your local Microsoft retailer. Although Gears of War: E-Day is far from the first gorgeous Xbox controller design the studio has put out, its striking design is certainly one of the most memorable. On top of the controllers, Xbox even announced an official collaboration with 8BitDo for an E-Day-themed Ultimate Charging Dock for XBOX Controllers, which is compatible with both Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X controllers with its own rechargeable battery pack to ensure you don't run out of charge in the midst of a gaming session. Whether you're looking for a way to celebrate the new release in the beloved shooter franchise with Gears of War: E-Day or are just looking for a cool new controller to add to your collection, this limited edition release is definitely one that is worth checking out for yourself.
