Phantom Blade Zero has a lot of unconventional bosses that don't follow the "rules" of the game. Sometimes the bosses will have an extra layer of health, other times a shield and then some of them won't even have a corporeal, like the one we are talking about. Gu Wanyue, the Wailing Wraith; unlike most bosses in the game, this one can't be damaged unless certain conditions are met. If you're having trouble fighting this singing lady, don't worry, we did too. With a bit of knowledge and maybe a few practice attempts, you can overcome this nasty boss. We'll provide you with some written guides as well as a video guide of us finishing this fight. How To Prepare For The Wailing Wraith If we're being perfectly honest, other than bringing your best Healing gourds, you can't really prepare much for the Wailing Wraith boss fight. The best advice we can give you is: learn the timing of parries and especially red-lined dodges. In other words, if you counter the Wailing Wraith's nasty attacks, not only will you avoid damage, but you'll do significant damage to her stamina. How To Fight The Wailing Wraith The Wailing Wraith can only be damaged after you've depleted her stamina and stun her. This is the only time during the entire fight when she gets a corporeal form and is prone to damage. Unfortunately, to get her to this stage, you need to parry and especially dodge her deadliest attacks. Gu Wanyue's regular attacks are pretty easy to dodge. In our experience, just keep tapping (mashing) the block button and you should be able to block all of them. However, whenever she goes into an attack frenzy, she is likely about to do one of her punishing attacks. The Ground Throw If The Wailing Wraith is outside your attack distance, and you see a red flashing line, she's about to do the Ground Throw. With this attack she will swoop in, grab you and bash you against the floor, causing significant damage. You can counter this by pressing the dodge button at the right time, and this will even do damage to her stamina. The Neck Breaker Likely one of the most suggestive and iconic attacks of this boss which will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. After a barrage of attacks, Gu Wanyue will jump and sit on your shoulders and use her thighs to quickly twist and turn your head, breaking your neck in the process. The further you get in the fight, the more damage this attack will do. Thankfully, if you dodge this at the right time, you'll deplete more than a quarter of her stamina, so make sure you do. The Darkness Attack The Wailing Wraith will make the entire fighting area dark. You can't do much here, except spam the block button to hopefully dodge her attacks. Unfortunately, she can also use the Neck Breaker and the Ground Throw while the arena is dark, so try to dodge those too. In short, simply learn how to dodge Gu Wanyue's attacks, deplete her stamina a few times, and do as much damage as you can after you drain her stamina, and you'll be good to go.
