Emirates' longest route is between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Auckland Airport (AKL), New Zealand, covering around 8,810 miles (14,178 km). The airline operates one daily flight on the route with its Airbus A380. The aircraft has 14 first class seats, 76 business class seats, 56 premium economy seats and 338 economy seats. The flight departs Dubai at 10:05 AM local time and arrives in Auckland at 09:55 AM the following day. Simple Flying looked at fares for flights later this month to get an idea of what passengers can expect to pay across the different cabins. A one-way economy class ticket starts at around $1,597, while premium economy starts at approximately $2,632. Business class starts at around $5,668, and first class starts at approximately $9,417. These are just the starting prices rather than fixed fares, and the amount can change depending on the fare type and availability. Emirates offers four main fare types across its cabins: Special, Saver, Flex and Flex Plus. They differ in areas such as ticket flexibility, baggage allowance and the number of Skywards Miles earned. Special is the lowest-priced option, followed by Saver, Flex and Flex Plus. The fare type a passenger chooses can therefore affect both the initial ticket price and the upgrade options available to them. Regarding the upgrade options, once a passenger has booked an economy or premium economy ticket, there are several ways to upgrade to business class. For frequent Emirates travelers, however, there is another option. Passengers who have built up a balance of Skywards Miles can use them to upgrade an eligible booking to business class. It is worth noting that the number of Skywards Miles required for an upgrade depends on factors including the route and the fare booked. According to Emirates, passengers with Special fares aren't eligible for mileage upgrades. Saver fares can be upgraded with miles at check-in or on board, while passengers with Flex and Flex Plus fares can request a mileage upgrade at any time before the flight, subject to availability. Take Dubai to Los Angeles, for instance. It is the airline's second-longest route, which covers around 8,334 miles (13,412 km), and the flight takes about 17 hours and 5 minutes. A one-way economy class fare on the route typically costs between $1,204 and $1,608, while business class fares range from around $5,480 to $7,525. Based on those fares, the difference between the two cabins can be more than $4,000. A discounted cash upgrade could bring that amount down, but passengers could still be looking at a few thousand dollars for the upgrade. Those using Skywards Miles can expect to need between 188,000 and 336,000 miles, depending on the fare and upgrade option. Dubai to Houston is another example. The route covers around 8,165 miles (13,140 km) and is Emirates' third-longest. A one-way economy class ticket typically costs between $1,131 and $1,530, which puts the difference to business class at around $3,600 to $5,500 based on the fares available. The mileage requirement is also in a similar range to the Dubai-Los Angeles route. What Do You Get For The Price Of Emirates Business Class? For those who book business class in advance, the experience starts well before boarding. The UAE flag carrier provides complimentary chauffeur transfers in many major cities and also offers access to dedicated lounges across its network. Once onboard, passengers get lie-flat seats, upgraded dining, additional storage, and enhanced in-flight entertainment. On the Airbus A380, business class seats are arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration and are based on Safran's SkyLounge platform. Each seat has additional storage compartments, including a smaller compartment for non-alcoholic beverages, an individual reading light, and an 18-inch (45.72 cm) in-flight entertainment screen. The passengers also have access to the aircraft's onboard bar, located at the rear of the upper deck. On the A350, the seats are also based on Safran's SkyLounge platform, although the seat width and pitch differ slightly. The Boeing 777-200LR, meanwhile, has a different product; seats are arranged in a 2-2-2 configuration and are based on Collins Aerospace's Diamond platform. These seats were introduced during a cabin refresh several years ago when Emirates removed first class from the aircraft. The 777-200LR previously had a denser 2-3-2 business class configuration. The Boeing 777-300ER also has Collins Aerospace business class seats in its older configuration. With that being said, Emirates has been retrofitting these aircraft with newer business class seats similar to those on the A380, with a 1-2-1 configuration. More than 20% of the 777-300ER fleet has received the updated cabin, although some aircraft still operate with the older 2-3-2 layout as the refurbishment continues. Besides, the airline also provides Bulgari amenity kits with items such as skincare products, fragrance, and lip balm. On overnight routes, passengers also receive pajamas, slippers, and an eye mask.
