House resolution condemning socialism reflects ‘something much bigger’: Byron York

Washington Examiner chief political correspondent Byron York highlighted Rep. Jeff Crank’s (R-CO) House resolution condemning socialism as another way to force Democrats to show where they stand on socialism.“This is one of the things that’s done pretty commonly on Capitol Hill,” York said on Fox News’s America Reports. “You think of a bill, and you think of the opposition party, and it would hurt them if they voted for it, and it would hurt them if they voted against it.”Crank introduced the resolution on Thursday. The document highlighted parts of the Democratic Socialists of America’s platform but also emphasized the need to pass the SAVE America Act to ensure free and fair elections. “This resolution condemns socialism in all its forms, as well as highlights the un-American tenets that DSA aspires to, including allowing noncitizens and incarcerated criminals to vote in American elections,” according to a press release. “It also reaffirms support for free, fair, and secure elections and the principle that American elections should be decided by American citizens.” York said that “the whole purpose of this” is to put Democrats in a difficult position.“But, it does reflect something much bigger that’s going on in this midterm race, which is the rise of the democratic socialist party,” York said. “Regardless of what happens inside the House of Representatives, I would imagine in every single competitive House race in the country, Republicans will, in one way or the other, ask Democrats, ‘Do you support this stuff?’”However, York argued that adding the SAVE America Act to the resolution will guarantee that Democrats will not vote for it, and “it will give Democrats a reason to say they didn’t vote for it.”York said it gives Democrats a reason to “try not to answer the question at all.”York suggested that Democrats might not know what goes into socialism and that they do not actually agree with abolishing the Senate or the police.HOUSE RETURNS TO WASHINGTON AS GOP MOVES TO AVERT SHUTDOWN BEFORE MIDTERM ELECTIONSThe DSA platform, called “Workers Deserve More,” includes eliminating the Senate, granting amnesty for all immigrants, defunding the Pentagon, and replacing the Electoral College with a national popular vote for president.“I think it’s enough for Republicans to say, ‘Democrats, socialism, Democrats, socialism,’ or as the president would say, ‘communism,’” York said.
