Henry Cavill's Favorite Video Game Series Is Back Of all the pies Henry Cavill has his proverbial finger in, Warhammer 40,000 has to be the most interesting. Despite proving to be a rather successful tabletop experience and enjoying a thoroughly engrossing run with its Black Library novels, the franchise has never quite managed to translate to video game form or even TV and film. It's rather baffling, especially considering the breadth of its fascinating, grimdark universe, and the potential for an epic Game of Thrones-esque saga of politics, horrifying war, numerous factions, and religious discourse. Fortunately, Cavill's upcoming Warhammer TV series is set to break the long-standing belief that Warhammer 40k simply cannot work on the small or big screen, and deliver the epic fans have wanted for quite some time. Designed to further admonish and correct this notion, alongside the successful Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, is the release of a brand-new entry in Cavill's favorite gaming series, Total War: Warhammer 40,000. It marks Total War's first foray into the world of 40k (although not Warhammer), and also the first original mainline Total War game since Total War: Warhammer launched in 2016. Cavill mentioned in a 2019 interview with Hobby Consolas that he "love[s] Total War games," stating, "Total War games are probably my favorites because I can play them wherever and whenever I want and start over. And it’s still a fresh experience, which is a dream come true." Total War: Warhammer 40,000 is set to be the biggest and most ambitious Total War game yet, its massive universe offering numerous planets (each with their own enormous maps) to conquer, the ability to customize your own sub-faction, a handful of crucial innovations that fans have been requesting for quite some time, and a promise from Creative Assembly to be dedicated to this one game rather than make new entries that are ostensibly DLC, as it did with the Total War: Warhammer series. Most importantly, however, Total War: Warhammer 40,000 marks the series debut on consoles. Total War: Warhammer 40K Marks The Series Debut On Console Traditionally, the Total War series has always been released on PC, a necessity given the complexity of its grand strategy gameplay and the thousands of units rendered on screen at any given time. However, Total War: Warhammer 40,000 marks a departure from this tradition, as it is launching on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, alongside the PC release. This is perhaps its most ingenious move, especially given that it's utilizing an immensely popular IP that has performed remarkably well on console in recent memory. So far, Total War: Warhammer 40,000 has a tentative release date of 2027, with no specific date having been announced yet. Of course, this leaves plenty of room for Creative Assembly to delay the game further, something that, given its massive scale and console ports, could potentially happen. However, based on the sheer amount of gameplay Creative Assembly has already showcased during various events, and the fact that Total War: Medieval 3 is in early production and likely to be released in the next few years, we may just see Total War: Warhammer 40,000 hit its 2027 release date, especially if it happens to coincide with the Amazon TV series Henry Cavill is starring in.
