Hate preacher Abu Hamza’s son, 31, launches legal bid to return to UK after ‘fighting for Al Qaeda in Syria’

Kamal denies fighting for Al Qaeda or any terrorist groups, his lawyers claim. They say he instead was fighting alongside the Assad regime alongside the Syrian free army which was backed by the UK. His case was heard last week at the Special Immigration Appeals Commission with MI5 sharing classified intelligence with a panel of judges. Most read in The Sun A spook, identified as MT, provided evidence against Kamal from behind a curtain with the alleged terrorist watching on from Syria via video link. A year after Kamal’s dad was extradited to the US in 2013 Kamal fled to Syria. Kamal’s representation claim he stayed away from terror groups while in the region and say he went to “fight against terrorists, not become one.” It was heard however that there was enough evidence in 2016 that Kamal had been fighting with terrorist groups that MI5 advised the then Home Secretary to take away his citizenship. Advice from the time said: “Should Kamal return to the UK, we assess that there is a real risk that he would use his experience in Syria to assist UK-based Islamist extremists to engage in Islamist extremist activity.” It was revealed in court that Kamal had tried to return in 2019 but was arrested in Istanbul, Turkey, and held for two years. Kamal said at his hearing last week: “Taking away my citizenship has affected me and my family. I am not a terrorist.” His dad was sentenced to life without parole in 2014 in America. Between the hate preacher’s six sons, four have been convicted of crimes, between them they have racked up a staggering 40 years in British prisons. Their crimes range from terrorism to armed robbery and drug dealing. Kamal previously said: “Britain is the place where I was born and lived. I have never been a threat to national security in Britain. “Abu Hamza is my father and he has his own opinions and I have mine. Revoking my citizenship just because I am related to Abu Hamza is not allowed.”
