Harry is ‘completely fine’ with Diana book, Spencer claims as Earl reveals how Prince reacted when he learned of it

PRINCE Harry is “completely fine” with Earl Spencer’s book about Princess Diana, his uncle has claimed. The earl has made a series of claims about the King in Swan Song: Diana, My Sister – including that Charles said “we’ll forget her soon enough” after she died – which has prompted a war of words between him and Buckingham Palace. A palace spokesman said last week that the King is “mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgement and colour memory in ways others do not recognise”. He said on Harry’s reaction: “I think they were actually worried where I was going up to with the book. “It pretty much ends in 1997 with Diana’s death, and there’s a tiny postscript by the grave. “So I think there was this, ‘Gosh, what’s he written about?’ And I think it’s natural that people so in the public eye are concerned how they will come across in the book. Most read in Royals “But I could reassure both of them that they’re of course in the book, but really as examples of two little boys who had the most exceptional mother, I’m not in any way compromising their privacy at all.” He told the magazine he did “not really” have any fear about writing so candidly about Charles. “I respect the institution of the Crown, and I know that most people in Britain do, especially the older generation, but when I’m writing this book, I’m not interested in who people are in terms of status,” he added. “I’m looking at them as people. And the central person, the only one that really matters, is Diana.” The earl said he believes his sister would have liked the book. Speaking to Laura Kuenssberg on Sunday the 62-year-old said the claims he makes in the book will be of no surprise for William and Harry. He has since doubled down, insisting he’s “telling the truth” about the then-Prince going “ballistic” at him during the alleged phone call. Spencer also told the BBC that he quickly told “close friends and family” about the “monstrous” comment. The earl has been slammed as “cruel” for saying “giddy” Charles behaved like an “elated lottery winner” when delivering news of the fatal car crash in August 1997. In the new book the earl blasts the lack of concern shown to Harry after his mother’s funeral, insisting a “more caring hand” would have helped him.
