Halo: Parasite's Wake Will Officially See The Flood Return

While these enemies are plenty iconic in their own right, the Flood itself is easily one of the series staples that have been relatively left behind in modern entries. Thankfully, while Halo: Campaign Evolved is already offering players a prequel story to further expand the scope of its universe, fans are also being treated to an entirely new perspective on one of the most horrifying moments in the history of the Flood. Announced earlier this year on Halo Waypoint with a release slated for September 29, Halo: Parasite's Wake is an original horror novel set during the events of the original Halo: Combat Evolved. Focusing on the Flood's very first introduction during the familiar outbreak on the Installation 04 Halo Ring, the story instead shows the events from the perspective of the UNSC Marines that made first contact with the unstoppable parasite. Acting as not only a prequel to the later events of Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo: Parasite's Wake also promises to carry over elements that were first introduced with the original Halo: The Flood adaptation of the game's events. This time aroundm, Parasite's Wake follows Staff Sergeant Marvin Mobuto, who was first introduced as a minor character in the previous novel that even Chief himself noted as having fought incredibly admirably during the horrific event. While we already have a general idea of what happened to the Marines trapped within the installation's underbelly during the events of Combat Evolved, the more horror-focused lens of the upcoming novel is a perfect way to capture the truly horrifying tactics of the Flood and their unstoppable nature as a species. The squad of ex-convicts led by Marvin Mobuto already sounds like a great setup for another Alien film, and it's always great when we get to see more human perspectives from combatants who aren't strapped in near-invulnerable exosuits, allowing a glimpse into just how horrifyingly helpless most encounters in the Halo franchise are for the everyday marine. Although we don't exactly have to wait until September to find out the fate of most of the poor members of the UNSC that will be featured in the upcoming novel, Halo: Parasite's Wake is just another entry in the incredibly expansive series of novels that have kept the lore of the series alive for so long, which more recent entries in the Halo franchise haven't shied way from including their newer releases.
