Veteran actor Sunil Lahri praised Ravie Dubey for his portrayal of Lakshman in Nitesh Tiwari's epic Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, which released in cinemas on November 5, 2026. Lahri played the same iconic character in Ramanand Sagar's classic 1987 television series Ramayan. The 65-year-old on his Instagram handle gave his seal of approval to the casting and performance. He highlighted the nuanced portrayal of Lakshaman by Dubey. "The innocence and intensity that should be reflected in the character of Lakshman is visible in the new Ramayana. Hearty wishes for the success of the new Ramayana (sic)," Lahri wrote.Responding to the compliment in the comments section, Ravie Dubey expressed deep gratitude for the endorsement. He acknowledged Lahri's enduring legacy in the role. "Hello Sunil ji, I want to say with respect that I was very young when you played the role of Shri Laxman. That portrait of yours has held its place in the heart of the whole country since then till now. Ramayana is in our hearts. Your contribution has been very important in this deep connection (sic)," Dubey wrote. The actor further emphasised their shared objective in bringing the epic to audiences across generations. "Sunil ji, there is only one emotion in the centre of your and our efforts to convey the name of Shri Ram to the public, to the heart. The same purpose was then and it is still today. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Sunil ji. May your affection and blessings remain like this. Glory to Lord Ram (sic)," he added.Lahri's positive assessment marks a favourable shift from his earlier commentary on the film in April 2026. At the time, he evaluated the teaser footage of actor Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama. The Ramayan actor remarked that while Kapoor would justify the role with his acting, a fresher face might have naturally conveyed the calm and innocence traditionally associated with the character. He added that Kapoor's screen presence appeared more suited to Lakshman or Bharat.Ramayana: Rise of a Legend also features Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Yash as Ravana, Arun Govil as king Dashrath, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, Kunal Kapoor as Lord Indra and Vivek Oberoi as Vidyutjiva.Recently, actor Sunny Deol's post-credits sequence from the film was officially released by the makers.- Ends
