Games Inbox: What will be the next big Nintendo Switch 2 game?

Metroid Ravenous looks great but it’s not likely to be a massive seller (Nintendo) The Friday letters page asks what’s next for Nintendo after Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, as one reader questions how big a hit God Of War Laufey will be. Games Inbox is a collection of our readers’ letters, comments, and opinions. To join in with the discussions yourself email gamecentral@metro.co.uk The next big thingOne minor thing I appreciate about Nintendo is that they always make their sales figures public. Even when things aren’t going well, like in the Wii U days, they still release them. Maybe that’s some Japanese law and they have to, but Sony doesn’t always so I assume not. It’s definitely a big difference from Microsoft, who I don’t think has released a sale figure for anything in over a decade. Looking through the new ones I noticed that Star Fox has done 1.17 million since late June, which seems… okay? Nintendo clearly want to get Star Fox back as a big franchise, but I don’t know if that’s going to be enough to greenlight a brand new game or not. Because that is a series where there’s not really any other games worth remaking, unless they want to do the two SNES games. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave has already sold 1.34 million and it only came out in September, so that seems really good. It was more expensive than most Switch 2 games too, so Nintendo must’ve made a tidy profit on that and I’m sure we’ll see more now. Splatoon Raiders came out in July and that’s already sold 2.42 million, which seems pretty good. I still don’t know why they didn’t just make Splatoon 4 though, considering Splatoon 3 sold over 11 million and Raiders is never getting anywhere close to that. Want GTA 6 news? These are all B-tier franchises though and I would say so is Metroid, Kirby, and Xenoblade, which are already announced for next year. That’s no offence to them but they’re not massive sellers. We know Pokémon is out next year too but that’s not technically a Nintendo game, so my question is what will be the next A-lister? People are saying it’s Super Mario but I don’t yet see any proof or even any good rumours that that’s true.Prof. Blue All to proveI’m in two minds regarding the next Elder Scrolls game. I loved Oblivion and got all achievements. Skyrim, on the other hand, was a bit of a slog and I’ve barely half of the achievements to this day. I even gave up on it when Dark Souls came out, as it was so much more enjoyable. I have Starfield sitting on my shelf untouched, because people are still not impressed with it, even with all the updates. I will wait and hopefully still be able to play it when it comes out but Sentinel will have to be a lot better than Skyrim. Bethesda needs to work like they did on Fallout 76 and make the game worth playing and fun. Hoping for the best.Bobwallett Delay responseHard to feel too upset about the God Of War Laufey delay, especially as it’s not very long, but it does worry me if they moved it just because it was a busy month. It’s a Sony first party game, it should be what the other games get out of the way. People have been complaining about the lack of first party games for a while now but while the quality of them is usually up to par you can’t help but notice most of them haven’t really sold that well. Not outright flops but they haven’t been mega hits either. God Of War Sons Of Sparta, Saros, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls… all came and went very quickly this year and Marvel’s Wolverine doesn’t look like it’ll get anywhere close to the Spider-Man games. If Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet doesn’t do well, I can see Sony rethinking their whole approach.Colin Email your comments to: gamecentral@metro.co.uk Rally good suggestionsJust wanted to highlight a couple of indie racing gems from this year. The first is my current game of the year: Super Woden: Rally Edge. If you love arcade rally games, this is the game for you. It’s isometric and has a handling model that I feel is pitch perfect for arcade rallying. The campaign is also great, as it’s a throwback to the campaigns of rally games on PS1, none of this extra padding for the sake of it just to complicate things. Secondly, there is Parking Garage Rally Circuit, which recently got some DLC based on European car parks instead of the US based ones of the original. It really evokes the Sega Dreamcast vibes and has real depth to it. Anyone can play it and beat the bronze medals, but it takes real mastery to get gold. The Windsor based level is a real highlight. Both are pretty cheap and available on everything now.Kurt LewinPS: Please could I request the LeMan Racing code. GC: Sure, we’ll send it across shortly. Game of Thrones redemptionI always forget the same developer that made Lemmings also made GTA. Even if there wasn’t a lot of crossover, in terms of the actual people. I do miss the days when Rockstar used to do different things, but I’ll be lying if I said any of their post GTA 3 stuff was any more than a novelty. I mean, does anyone really want a sequel to L.A. Noire? I’d be interested in a Bully 2 but the original was only half a good game, as the classroom stuff was really bad. Max Payne I never liked. I think the only real hope for something brand new is another open world game like Red Dead Redemption, but with a different theme. Pirates and sci-fi have been mentioned and I’d be fine with that, or even something fantasy. Thinking about it, Rockstar would’ve been perfect for a Games of Thrones game, even though I know that’ll never happen.Focus Not the timeNice Zelda review, for me a mostly 1:1 redo over isn’t enough when we have other remakes that do push the envelope. I guess if you’re Nintendo subverting expectations in some clever way would probably lead to a major backlash from its overly obsessive fans (see also, the Zelda timeline). I enjoy the weaponised nostalgia in Resident Evil 4 remake, that lulls the player into false senses of security before undercutting it, or the way Final Fantasy 7 Remake bends player’s knowledge of the original story for a similar discombobulating purpose. But imagine if Nintendo did that here… they’d be riots over what they’d done to the cosy comfort food. Us gamers are a conservative bunch these days, the first letter on GC the day after the review was depressingly questioning why anyone would be disappointed in a 1:1 remake; despite the original game being available to play on Switch anytime you like. It’s a shame, as given Nintendo’s track record of reinventing the wheel you’d hope recasting our obsessive love of the past in some clever ways wouldn’t be beyond them. But no, we get a second slavish remake in a year, which when paired with the Mario movies has me worried over the current direction they’re heading in.MarcPS: Agree you with guys RE: navigating a 3D space and camera for non-gamers. I remember my mum wanting to get into games some years ago, having never played them before, and that aspect completely defeated her. It seems like something (like learning a language) best done as a kid when our brains are mushier. GC: We think you’re being a little unfair, given part of the reason the remake exists is as an alternative to Breath Of The Wild, which did completely reinvent the formula. A remake of Ocarina Of Time, in the 40th anniversary year, is not the place to look for innovation, especially when Nintendo has already indicated the next mainline game will be something completely different. Nintendo does what Rockstar don’tIt’s Thursday, it’s 2.20pm, it’s time for an early finish! Let’s go fairy boy, jab.. oh, Link it is then! Hey… listen!big boy bentPS: It even came with its own map. Ahem, Rockstar. If only GTA 6 had a free map (big boy bent) Physical DLCI expect you are going to get a lot of letters regarding The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time today. I was eager to pre-order mine when it was announced but sure enough it was out of stock pretty quick. So I thought I would take my chances on the morning of release, take the day off work and pick it up first thing. To my surprise there was a pretty big queue, I finally got to the front and was pleasantly surprised when they handed me a foil covered version. Yes, I know it’s just a bit of foil but I’m an avid Zelda collector and this looks a lot better next to everything else I’ve got than just the bog standard one. Anyway, bravo Nintendo, they’ve done it. So far I’ve noticed a lot of differences but I’m pretty hardcore when it comes to that game and that water looks so gorgeous to jump in that I can’t help but do it every time I see it. Hyrule Town made me smile all the way through, such an upgrade on the previous iterations. One thing I will say is, those amiibo that seem to be coming out at a really weird date after release?Nintendo are missing a trick if the Link amiibo just gives you a mask and doesn’t offer you a chance to play the Master Quest as well. I’m going off on a flight of fancy here but I would really like the Zelda amiibo to open up some of those closed doors in the Castle Town too, even if it’s just a few minigames that don’t really make much difference to the whole adventure. When physical media is a touchy subject these days and a certain other game has washed its hands of it. There probably wouldn’t be a better time to introduce a little Link or Zelda figure that opened up more opportunities to a game you’ve already completed sitting comfortably on your fireplace.Who knows, maybe that was one of the big bright ideas these new budding Nintendo employees have come up with? I do know one thing though, Princess Zelda really needs to beef up her lax security, she is far too easily accessible for the space year 2026.freeway 77 GC: People get pretty angry about amiibo offering anything but small cosmetic extras, so we’re not sure that would go down well. But we’re not opposed to the idea of Master Quest DLC in general. Inbox also-ransSilent Hill f is currently enjoying a deep discount on PSN and is £15.39 until the 20th of this month. It really is an excellent price and one that I happily accepted.Simundo GC: Yes, that’s an excellent price. We strongly recommend it. So what was the problem with Link having a jump button? Does it complicate anything in the remake?Nick The Greek GC: If you’re a casual gamer it does, simply because it’s another button you have to worry about. But it will make no difference to an experienced gamer.
