Google Home update restores support for older Chromecast streamers, Home Mini

A rogue Google Home update earlier this year partially broke support for some older Chromecast streamers and other devices, but the latest update has restored it. If you’re still using one of the original Chromecast streaming dongles over a decade later, first of all, kudos to you. While Google has technically dropped software support for its original 2013 streamer, the company continues to provide updates and support for other models. Back in May, it seemed as though the end had come for that first-gen device as support faltered in the Home app, but a fix arrived later on. It didn’t take long for further issues to appear, though. There was another wave of reports in late July, affecting not only the first-gen Chromecast, but also the 2015 model and Google Home Mini. The issue was primarily affecting setup, but also functionality to some extent, and mostly on the Android version of the Google Home app. Google says this should be fixed as of Google Home v4.26 which is available now. In a comment shared across several Reddit threads, Google explains: We’ve resolved an issue that was impacting the ability to set up some older Chromecast and Google Home devices. If you haven’t already, factory reset their speaker or update your Google Home app to version 4.26 and try again… You can download Google Home v4.26 via the Play Store, but you likely already have it installed.
