GIMP 3.2.8 Released With Many Refinements, Numerous Security Fixes Due To AI Reports

GIMP 3.2.8 is out today as the newest stable release of this open-source image editing application that's most popular on the Linux desktop. GIMP 3.2.8 brings a number of GUI enhancements to this image editing program. For example, the color picking display GUIs have been improved to see more minor changes in colors when editing. GIMP 3.2.8 is also now able to load larger HEIF images thanks to the updated HEIF loading code. GIMP now has a GUI testing suite to better check for regressions in the app during development. GIMP also improved its font-loading code so it can be cancelled early, which should help in GIMP program shutdown times. More definitions have been added to the GIMP theme file so that the program looks the same on each platform. GIMP 3.2.8 also improves its AppImage compatibility Last but not least, GIMP 3.2.8 has seen a number of security fixes as a result of "a large quantity of security reports due to recent advances in software scanning and testing programs." The GIMP 3.2.8 announcement adds about the ongoing security reports: "We take security seriously, but this is not quite as scary as it first sounds. There are no personal accounts or banking information to exploit since we of course don’t access or store that information! The most common report that we get is our older image plug-ins and legacy filters are too trusting of the image size information provided by the image file, and if you intentionally alter this information, you could cause the plug-in (not GIMP itself) to crash."
