Geese’s Cameron Winter confirms work on new solo project, but progress has been “hard”

Geese frontman Cameron Winter has confirmed he’s working on a new solo project. Now, he’s revealed that a new solo project is in the works – but that progress on it has been “hard”. During a new interview with Rolling Stone, Winter opened up about the process. “I used to write songs with interesting, difficult almost, chords in them, and now it’s like I-IV-V until the cows come home,” Winter said. “It’s actually getting worse and worse. It’s like the fucking rut is getting deeper and deeper, because then I do a ii chord, and I’m just like, ‘Ew. What are you, fucking Keith Jarrett, you piece of shit?’” He went on to say that he’s played songs from the album to a few other people, but added: “I stopped doing it because I think it just is not useful for me. I think most people that I’ve played it to, they kind of furrow their brow a little bit and they’re just like, ‘So is this… This is going on the record then? This is one of those songs?'” Winter continued: “I don’t think anyone’s really liked it.” Geese's Cameron Winter opens up about the solo music he's been working on and explains why he's stopped sharing it with people: "It just is not useful for me…I don't think anyone's really liked it." pic.twitter.com/OPs2kFfaCF — Rolling Stone (@RollingStone) September 10, 2026 Speaking to NME in 2024 ahead of the release of ‘Heavy Metal’, Winter opened up about his decision to work outside of the band. “I got a lot of advice that it was too early to ‘go solo’, probably because most people feel that ‘solo albums’ come once a band is basically over the hill and that they’re usually uninspired cash grabs, but rest assured, my solo album is unique, because barely anybody knows who my band is, I’m young and not afraid of living with my parents and I’m free to chase whatever ideas I want,” he said.Recommended Elsewhere in the new Rolling Stone interview, Geese responded to the “psyop” allegations they have faced of late, and responded to the backlash surrounding the band’s Saturday Night Live performance, with Winter saying the reaction “depressed the shit out of [him]”. In other news, Winter is set to release his first live album and concert film – directed by Paul Thomas Anderson – capturing his solo gig at Carnegie Hall. On the 2025 solo tour, NME awarded Winter’s show at London’s Roundhouse a glowing five stars, writing: “Cameron Winter has the power, talent and magnetism of a future great – a star to go the distance with just that voice, a piano and a whole world quite literally at his fingertips.”
