Gang Of Dragon Developer Nagoshi Studio Officially Shut Down

Gang Of Dragon Studio Founded By Yakuza Creator Has Officially Been Shut Down Nagoshi Studio Published Nov 2, 2026, 2:13 AM EST Josh Coulson is an editor at TheGamer covering breaking news on everything from colorful platformers to the latest Lego sets. Primarily a news writer since 2018, Josh has covered just about every major game from the past decade. Now an editor, their focus has shifted to being the leading affiliate expert at the site, building relationships between TheGamer and global brands including Mattel, Funko, and The Pokemon Company. Following a tumultuous year that started with the reveal of its ambitious new game, Gang of Dragon, reports that Nagoshi Studio has been shuttered have been confirmed. There were reports that the developer had shut down after ten months of radio silence exactly one month ago, and now its closure is official. Nagoshi Studio Has Been Dissolved On October 31, 2026, the Japanese government gazette Kanpo announced that Nagoshi had been dissolved via shareholder resolution (thanks, Gematsu). That means that, less than 11 months after the new studio showed its first game to the world during 2025's Game Awards, that studio now no longer exists. Nagoshi Studio was formed by Toshiro Nagoshi, the mind behind the Yakuza games, hence the excitement among fans of the series when the developer formed his own studio. Gang of Dragon got its big reveal during last year's Game Awards, showing off Ma Dong-seok, also known as Don Lee, who played roles in Death Stranding 2 and Marvel's Eternals, in the game's lead roles. The trailer seemingly did exactly what it needed to do, generating excitement not only among Yakuza fans, but also pulling in others thanks to its big-name actor. However, it only took a few months for all of that positive buzz to completely vanish when plans at Nagoshi seemingly started to unravel. NetEase Pulled Nagoshi's Funding Out Of Nowhere Nagoshi had NetEase funding behind it, which was why Gang of Dragon was such an ambitious project. However, for reasons that remain unknown, considering the successful reveal, NetEase pulled the studio's funding during the first few months of 2026. It was after that, when Nagoshi's YouTube channel, along with Gang of Dragon's reveal trailer, were taken offline, that those excited for the new game, and whatever else Nagoshi might serve up, started to worry. A few weeks after that, reports began to circulate claiming all development at the studio had ceased, and now here we are, another six months later, and as we feared, Nagoshi Studio is no more. Whatever work that had been done on Gang of Dragon has likely been scrapped, and it will be yet another game that will never see the light of day. Even though this situation has seemed pretty hopeless since we first heard murmurs of NetEase pulling the plug, again for no officially revealed reason, there were hopes for the last six months that Nagoshi might be able to figure out how to remain independent and fund Gang of Dragon itself. Sadly, that last glimmer of hope has now been officially snuffed out.
