Credit: Getty PARENTS looking to get ahead with their Christmas shopping can already bag up to half price on toys at some of the UK’s biggest retailers. Argos, Tesco, Asda and Morrisons are among the big high street names running major toy promotions months before the festive season. The stores are offering bargains on items from popular brands including Lego, Barbie, Hot Wheels, Bluey, Pokémon and Disney. Some deals are only available while stocks last, while others have strict end dates – so shoppers may need to move quickly if they spot something on their children’s Christmas lists. Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! But remember that a sale price does not necessarily mean an item is cheapest at that retailer. It’s always worth comparing prices elsewhere before buying, particularly as several major stores are running competing promotions at the same time. Here are all the toy sales running now and when they end. Argos – up to 50% off Argos has slashed the price of more than 800 toys in a sale running until 11.59pm on September 29. Discounts of up to 50% are available online and in stores, including on Lego, Barbie and Hot Wheels toys. The Hot Wheels Action Loop Cyclone Challenge Track Set is reduced online from £35 to £17.50. The next cheapest price we found elsewhere is currently £25. Most read in Money A Barbie Chelsea Pop-Up Doll House is reduced from £40 to £26.40, while a Lego Disney Stitch & Scrump set had fallen from £60 to £48. However, not everything is half price – so make sure to double check you’re getting a good deal before buying by comparing prices online. It’s also worth factoring in postage costs. Click and collect is free at Argos, but home delivery charges vary depending on the size of the item. Asda – up to 50% off Asda’s Big Toy Event is also offering savings of up to 50% online and in stores. A 14-inch Disney Stitch Squishmallow has been reduced online from £30.47 to £15, while a Hot Wheels Multi-Loop Race Off set was reduced from £50.02 to £25. The Lego Animal Crossing Creative Houses: Seasons of Fun set is down to £55.97 from £95. There is currently no published end date for Asda’s sale, so shoppers after a particular toy may want to keep an eye on stock levels. Online delivery starts from £3.75, while click and collect is free. Tesco – up to 50% off Tesco Clubcard holders can get up to 50% off more than 100 toys in selected larger supermarkets and Tesco Extra stores. The sale runs until stores close on November 1, or while stocks last. It includes dolls, plush toys, vehicles, arts and crafts and pre-school toys from brands including Disney, Pokémon, Funko and Bluey. Examples include the Bluey Heeler Family Celebration Home for £30, down from £60, and a Disney Princess doll and accessories for £20 instead of £40. The Toy Story Make Your Own Forky and Karen set is £10, down from £20. Meanwhile, the Mario and Luigi Mini Anti-gravity RC Races set has been reduced from £100 to £60. You’ll need a Clubcard to get the promotional prices, and availability will vary between stores. Morrisons – two for £16 Morrisons has launched a two-for-£16 offer across more than 100 selected toys. The deal is available online and in stores and runs until December 28. That means shoppers buying two qualifying £10 toys can save £4, equivalent to 20%. Products included vary by store but feature brands and characters including Bluey, Jurassic World, SpongeBob and Harry Potter. Unlike some supermarket promotions, you do not need a Morrisons More loyalty card to get the deal either. Make sure both toys are part of the promotion before heading to the checkout though. B&M – two for £20 B&M is running an ongoing two-for-£20 toy promotion in stores. More than 190 products were included when MoneySavingExpert checked, although the exact range will depend on your local branch. Brands featured include Barbie, Disney and Peppa Pig. The deal is only available in stores rather than online, and B&M has not published an end date. That means there is no guarantee particular products will still be available closer to Christmas. Should you buy your Christmas toys now? Buying toys early can help families spread the cost of Christmas over several paydays rather than facing one large bill in December. It can also mean you have a better chance of securing particularly popular toys before stocks start running low. And retailers often run discounts ahead of the festive period, so you could bag yourself a bargain. However, shoppers shouldn’t buy something purely because it has a large percentage discount attached. Retailers set their own prices, so an item advertised as 50% off in one shop could still be available for less somewhere else. Shoppers should make sure to compare prices before buying. Tools such as Google Shopping can give you a quick comparison across retailers, while price-history sites can help show whether an item’s current price really represents a good deal. Remember to factor in delivery charges, as a slightly cheaper online price can end up costing more once postage is added. Heavier items can be expensive to ship. And check retailers’ returns policies before buying presents months in advance. Some shops extend their returns windows for Christmas purchases later in the year, but buying in September could mean the standard return period expires long before December 25. Comment now
