FreeBSD 14.5 Released With Hardware Support Improvements, Many Bug & Security Fixes

For those that haven't yet made the move to FreeBSD 15 with still relying on FreeBSD 14 in production, out today is FreeBSD 14.5-RELEASE. FreeBSD 14.5 back-ports various bug fixes, addresses dozens of security issues, and also picks up some hardware driver support improvements and other adjustments to this stable base. FreeBSD 14.5 addresses a variety of different security advisories across the board from remote code execution to DoS attack vectors to just kernel stack issues, use-after-free bugs, and more. As with Linux and other open-source projects, many of these recent security advisories to FreeBSD were discovered via AI/LLM usage. FreeBSD 14.5 also pulls in some updated external software like LLVM 21.1.8, ncurses 6.6, OpenSSL 3.0.21, XZ 5.8.3, and other updates. On the hardware side, the ACPI driver now better deals with power management for Apple Mac hardware with dual GPUs, the AHCI driver supports additional SATA controllers, and the ASMC driver has dropped support for 32-bit Intel-based Macs.
