CBS News’ 60 Minutes introduced viewers to the wife and two children of a deported illegal alien Sunday, but what it conveniently left out of its sob story is that this illegal alien sought protection from deportation by claiming he feared persecution for homosexuality. “It feels really empty without him,” Corey Diawara told CBS News’ 60 Minutes when talking about his father, Moussa, who was deported this past July. But what CBS News failed to tell the audience is that, according to the Department of Homeland Security, Diawara claimed he couldn’t be deported back home to Mali because he feared persecution for homosexuality, a claim that’s quite curious given he’s married to a woman and has two children. Fake & Gay!Moussa Diawara, the Malian national featured in this shockingly poorly researched @60Minutes report, now faces allegations of immigration FRAUD after his asylum application surfaced, revealing that he claimed to be a HOMOSEXUAL man who feared persecution in Mali.… https://t.co/Ax88KGllKd— U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (@ICEgov) October 26, 2026 CBS News introduced viewers to Moussa’s wife and two children, captioning their post on the story on X: “Moussa Diawara says he was deported without being able to speak to his lawyer or a judge. He was eventually sent to Mali, a country a U.S. immigration judge ruled he could not be deported to.” In a separate post on X, 60 Minutes described Diawara as “a Texas father who had lived in the U.S. for 25 years with no criminal record [and] was finishing his night shift as an Uber driver when immigration agents detained him.” Diawara, originally from Mali, was sent to Ghana, “a country where he had no ties. He was then sent to his home country [of Mali], despite a determination by a U.S. immigration court judge that he could not be deported there due to likely persecution,” according to 60 Minutes. But what exactly was the “likely persecution” based on? According to DHS, Diawara “oddly claimed he would be persecuted for homosexuality if returned home to Mali, and requested a withholding of removal from his home country.” It seems like a pretty important detail to leave out of a report prominently featuring his wife and children. It also would’ve served CBS News well to scrutinize the story of a criminal rather than spend most of the story scrutinizing the law enforcement actions of the Trump administration — but that wouldn’t help the propaganda outlet advance its left-wing agenda on borders and immigration. As CBS News acknowledged, Diawara entered on a tourist visa rather than applying for asylum. An asylum application is typically used for persons fearing prosecution in their native country. Diawara overstayed his tourist visa and then, after overstaying his visa, he “later applied for refugee protection, arguing he would be persecuted if he were to return to Mali. Diawara had converted to Christianity, and Mali’s a Muslim-majority nation with an Islamist insurgency. He has no criminal record.” While Diawara may very well have converted to Christianity, as his asylum application states, this would only be half the story. Fox News obtained proof that Diawara applied for refugee status on the basis of his claimed homosexuality. In seeking asylum, Diawara attested that he had “female behaviors and feelings” and “was more comfortable being intimate with boys rather than with girls.” “Since I came to the USA I had the possibilities to express my feelings to men without any embarrassment no reserve,” Diawara wrote in his application, according to Fox News. CBS News’ audience deserved at very least a full presentation of the evidence relevant to Diawara’s case. Instead, CBS News failed to reveal the fact that Diawara used his claimed homosexuality as the basis for an asylum request — a claim that clashes with 60 Minutes‘ sympathetic portrayal of Diawara’s relationship with his wife and children. The glaring omission reads like a blatant attempt to deflect from Diawara’s apparent immigration fraud and manipulate viewers into taking a negative view of the enforcement of immigration law, which would be nothing new for the legacy media.
