Mustafah Largely fair weather is likely to prevail over Keralam throughout the Onam week this year, with the Bay of Bengal remaining relatively calm. However, the days ahead of Onam may witness some isolated showers in some parts of the State.The extended forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) also indicates subdued rainfall activity across most parts of the State during the coming week. However, towards the end of August, southern Keralam is likely to witness a couple of intense spells.An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over west-central adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal and north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coasts, along with another upper air cyclonic circulation over north Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh. Under the influence of the systems, isolated showers are likely in parts of the State between August 23 and 25.A yellow alert has been issued for four districts—Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad and Kozhikode—on August 23; five districts in central Keralam have been put on yellow alert on August 24, followed by three districts on August 25. However, the large-scale monsoon features are not very favourable for an active spell of rain during the Onam week.Meanwhile, the well-marked low-pressure area over northeast Madhya Pradesh and the neighbourhood has now weakened into a low-pressure area over the same region, with the associated cyclonic circulation on Friday.
