THREE people have been rushed to hospital after a seafront wall collapsed in a Spanish holiday resort. One of the victims is fighting for their life in critical condition, with a second in serious condition. It comes as violent storms batter Europe, with roads turning to rivers in flash floods in Italy and Spain. The terrifying incident took place in the early hours of Saturday morning in Roda de Bera on the Costa Dorada. Around 400 people had to be evacuated from a nightclub and campsite in the town as the region was battered by heavy rains. Emergency services rushed to the scene of the wall collapsed and two of the three injured were taken to Joan XXIII University Hospital, Tarragona. Their nationalities have not yet been released. Most read in The Sun The area was lashed by storms overnight, with emergency services receiving nearly 700 calls. Water reached up to knee height as residents desperately waded to safety. Mayor of the nearby town of El Vendrell Kenneth Martinez said the night had been “very long.” He added: “What we experienced is a situation we have never seen before.” A government spokesperson said: “Collapse of a wall on the Roda de Bera seafront this morning. “Three affected individuals have been assisted and transferred to hospital. “One in a critical condition has been taken to Joan XXIII University Hospital and another in a serious condition to the same hospital. “A third person in a less serious condition has been taken to Santa Tecla Hospital. “Three ambulances were mobilised as part of the emergency response operation.” Firefighters said: “At Roda de Bera Marina following an alert at 2.09am this morning we have rescued three people who were trapped when a wall collapsed and they were injured.” It comes as Menorca was battered by bad weather this week, with holidaymakers in Cala en Porter trapped inside their rooms after several large pine trees were toppled by strong gusts of wind.
