In Case Being A Landlord Wasn't Cruel Enough, Fable Will Let You Be An Evil Boss Who Monitors Workers Published Sep 7, 2026, 8:04 AM EDT Sign in to your TheGamer account Most of your memories of Fable probably involve ignoring the story and messing around with the life sim mechanics. The new developer, Playground Games, is aware of this and has spent a lot of time going over how these have been included and even expanded upon in the reboot. One area that is being given even more depth is business management. In the originals, you pretty much just bought out a business and set the price of goods. Now, the new Fable will let you manage who works in your businesses, with different NPCs being better suited than others. You can also control their pay and keep an eye on how they're performing. Not very heroic, but it is very Fable. Fable Doubles Down On Being An Evil Capitalist Screenshot from the Fable - Official Quest Gameplay trailer. This comes from GamesRadar+, which sat down with Fable game director Ralph Fulton. Here, we get more insight into how the business mechanics will work - and some tips on how we can exploit them. "One of the best ways to optimise a business is to identify whether an employee is actually working hard enough to increase the amount the business earns, and if not, fire them and just keep trying new employees to find one whose trait fits the business," Fulton explains. Different NPCs will yield different results. For example, an NPC with the "hard working" trait will give you a 20% profit increase. If you want to get gold fast, Fulton recommends buying a farm and filling it up with "hard working" NPCs. "Now, if you can go and get six hard-working NPCs, put them to work on a farm, that all stacks," he says. "So suddenly you can be making a ton of money from that. I didn't know that until someone in our level design team pointed that out to me. But that is actually the smart play if you're going the property route." You can also increase and decrease people's wages, and there will be both business and reputational effects to doing so. If you want to be the most beloved hero to ever walk Albion, you should let everyone do what they want and pay them well. Who knows, that might even be the best thing for your business, as it could encourage them to work harder. Or not - it does seem to depend on the types of workers you have. We can expect Playground to keep bigging up features like this, so people aren't worried about the relatively short runtime of the main story. It was recently revealed that just focusing on the main plot means you can probably beat Fable in 15-20 hours. However, Playground says this is practically doubled if you engage with the side content.
