Exclusive: Ajay Devgn to make TV debut as Crime Patrol host

The world of television is all set to welcome another Bollywood superstar. India Today has exclusively learnt that the ‘Singham’ star Ajay Devgn is all set to make his television debut as the host of Crime Patrol. The show is set to premiere on August 31.The Sony TV show is launching a new season that will focus on new-age crime stories, and the makers have roped in Ajay Devgn as the face and narrator of the show. A source close to the show told India Today that the actor has already shot for the promo, and the new season is expected to go on air sometime next month.“This season of Crime Patrol will bring forth fresh stories and explore how crime has changed over the years. Given that Ajay Devgn has been the face of Singham, where he plays a police officer fighting crime, the makers felt he would be the right choice to lead the show. The actor is also said to be excited about joining a marquee property like Crime Patrol. The first promo of the show will soon go live and will highlight the theme of the new season,” the source added.Crime Patrol first premiered on Sony TV on May 9, 2003, and has since become one of the longest-running crime franchises on Indian television. The show presents dramatised versions of real-life crime cases, often focusing on the circumstances surrounding a crime and the subsequent investigation. Over the years, the franchise has gone through several seasons, format changes and title changes like Crime Patrol Dastak, Crime Patrol Satark and Crime Patrol Dial 100, in an attempt to keep the show relevant to its audience. While Anup Soni remains the face most closely associated with Crime Patrol, he is not the only actor to have hosted the franchise. The show has previously been presented by actors including Diwakar Pundir, Shakti Anand, Sakshi Tanwar, Sanjeev Tyagi, Divyanka Tripathi, Sonali Kulkarni and Ashutosh Rana, among others.With Ajay Devgn now set to take over as the face and narrator of the upcoming season, Crime Patrol is giving its long-running format another major change. For Devgn, meanwhile, the show marks his first major television hosting stint and brings his association with the cop genre to the small screen.
