Evoke’s new $5,000 electric motorcycle can hit highway speeds, coming to US & EU

Electric motorcycles have long had a pricing problem. While battery-powered scooters and e-bikes have increasingly pushed into affordable territory, highway-capable electric motorcycles still tend to carry fairly hefty price tags. Evoke Motorcycles is hoping to change that with its newly unveiled 2027 Evoke Nrgy, a lightweight electric motorcycle targeting a starting price of just $4,995. And unlike many lower-cost electric two-wheelers, this one is actually designed to handle the highway. The new Evoke Nrgy tops out at 120 km/h (75 mph), putting it comfortably above typical urban electric motorcycles and scooters and giving riders enough speed for a mix of city, suburban, and highway riding. That aligns it with other popular light electric motorcycles like Ryvid Anthem, going beyond the realm of overpowered electric mopeds and allowing true highway jaunts. Evoke plans to offer the bike in two versions. The Nrgy 6 gets a 6.4 kWh battery and carries that targeted US $4,995 starting price, while the Nrgy 8 bumps the battery capacity up to 8.4 kWh and is expected to start at US $6,495. Interestingly, both use lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells instead of the more energy-dense chemistries commonly found in electric motorcycles. LFP batteries generally trade some energy density for advantages including improved thermal stability, longer cycle life, and potentially lower costs. Evoke hasn’t yet announced range figures for either model, so we’ll have to wait to see just how far those fairly sizable packs can carry the Nrgy. But with battery packs landed squarely in the ‘modest’ category, these bikes will likely be best suited for urban riding with some short but fun higher speed sections thrown in – not long distance touring. The bike is built around Evoke’s patented Twin Plate chassis architecture and features disc brakes at both ends. The styling is also fairly distinctive, with large slab-sided body panels surrounding the battery area, a traditional-looking faux tank up top, and a minimalist tail. It’s an interesting mix of futuristic electric motorcycle design with some conventional motorcycle cues, and appears to draw some inspiration from the previous 6061 model we saw from Evoke several years ago. “The Evoke Nrgy fills an important gap in our global product portfolio,” explained Evoke CEO Nathan Siy, adding that the company aimed to create a lightweight electric motorcycle without sacrificing “performance, safety or build quality.” The company is positioning the Nrgy as a global model, targeting Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America. Final regional pricing, homologation details, preorder timing, and delivery schedules are expected to be announced in the coming months. At $5,000, the Nrgy could find itself in an interesting position, assuming it meets its pricing goals. That’s still considerably more expensive than the growing crop of high-powered electric bikes and e-motos, but it’s getting into a much more approachable price range for something capable of legitimate highway speeds. Of course, that $5k figure is still a target price, and we’ve yet to see range figures or final regional specifications. But if the Beijing-based company can actually deliver a 75 mph electric motorcycle with a 6.4 kWh LFP battery in the US for around five grand, that combination could make lightweight electric motorcycles a lot easier to justify.
