Every Unused Eeveelution In Pokémon, Ranked By Their Potential

It's been well over ten years since the last Eevee evolution was introduced, and many fans are now anxious for Pokémon to end the streak and introduce a brand-new Eeveelution Type. There are currently eight evolutions of the beloved little Eevee, and rumors have been circulating that the upcoming Pokémon Winds and Waves title will add yet another to the lineup. Pokémon is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and as part of that has even designed beautiful figures of each of the Eevee evolutions that we currently know about. Naturally, Eevee is always a hot topic, as the adorable fox-like Pokémon is a beloved face of the franchise, nearly as popular as the official mascot, Pikachu. Sylveon was the last Eeveelution to have been found, and that happened way back in 2013. So, regardless of which Type may have the most potential, it's about time we see a new member added to the Eevee evolutionary line. Bug-Type Eevee Could Certainly Be Unique The cute look of Eevees and their evolutions could absolutely be put to the test if the next Eeveelution went the way of the Bug-type. While there are some cute, and even pretty, Bug-type Pokémon, such as Joltik and Vivillon, generally when one thinks of bugs, cute isn't the first adjective to come to mind. But, if anyone can create a sweet and adorable version of a bug, it would be Eevee. Bug-type Pokémon are also generally at a bit of a disadvantage, although not as much as in the early days of the franchise. Even still, Bug-types often benefit from being joined with other Types, rather than being pure, which the Eeveelutions generally are. Fighting-Type Eevee Could Be Hilarious To See I'm sure we have all seen memes or videos of adorable kittens who are trying to look tough. That's the first thing that I tend to picture when I imagine a Fighting-type Eeveelution. Of course, not all Eevee evolutions are sweet and demure. Flareon, Umbreon, and many others can look pretty vicious when they want to be, although they all still carry forward part of Eevee's cute and cuddly nature and looks. Keeping with the general look of the Eeveelution line, being a small four-legged creature, but blending that with the fighting style of a Machoke could be pretty comical. If done well, it would be a stunning and epic pocket monster, but it could also very easily look more like that little kitten trying to attack. Ground-Type Eevee Could Be A Logical Choice In the past, Eevee evolutions are supposedly created as the Eevee adapts to the environment it finds itself in. While that certainly doesn't make sense in some cases, if we were to continue with that point, then a Ground-type would make sense. The upcoming Pokémon Winds & Waves seems to be taking us back to a nature-filled world, where our young trainers will be traversing islands. Previously, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet introduced the beach-combing Wiglett that looks much like Diglett. Although Wiglett is actually a Water-type to Diglett's Ground-type, we already have a Water-type Eeveelution. Therefore, making a sandy Ground-type evolution of Eevee actually makes a lot of sense, in a contrasting fashion, and could be a very cool design. Poison-Type Eevee May Not Be As Cute, But Effective Poison-type Pokémon aren't often the most popular of the little pocket monsters, but can still be quite useful. Eevee evolutions are generally all known for their cuteness, stemming from the adorable little Eevee itself, so perhaps a Poison-type Eeveelution could somehow balance out and be fairly charming. Regardless of appearance, Poison-types are generally very good for defense, particularly due to being immune to poison themselves. They are weak to Ground and Psychic attacks, but are excellent against Fairy- and Grass-type Pokémon. Rock-Type Eevee While Eevee generally doesn't look all that tough, a Rock-type form of an Eeveelution could make up for that. As the term "rock" would suggest, a Rock-type is generally powerful in offense and has high physical defense. Sadly, they are also pretty weak to a lot of the common Types, including Water-, Grass-, and Fighting-types. A Rock-type Eeveelution would certainly have the benefit of some ready-to-go names like Obsideon, and its overall design could be fantastic if done right. Using the rock themes, an Eeveelution could present as a walking statue, a rock-covered creature, or even blend it with some kind of gems to create a geode effect. Steel-Type Eevee Was Anticipated With Z-A There's no denying that a Steel-type Eeveelution would not only look awesome but be an incredibly strong addition to many teams. Before the release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, many fans were predicting that a Steel-type Eevee variant would be revealed. This was mainly due to the fact that it would fit well with the general theme of playing strictly in the city. While that did not happen, a Steel-type Eevee evolution would still serve as a nice counter-balance to the previously released Fairy-type Sylveon. Additionally, it could make for a pretty interesting narrative to introduce a Steel-type evolution into Eevee's line, although it may not fit well with the tropical vibes that Winds and Waves is going for. Flying-Type Eevee Could Fit Well With Wind And Waves The next video game in the Pokémon franchise is the upcoming Pokémon Winds and Waves, which already has had several leaks suggesting it will feature an incredibly large Pokédex. As the title suggests, the game features windswept islands and a vast ocean to explore. As we already have the Water-type Vaporeon, this could potentially be the ideal time to introduce a Flying-type Eevee to the family to correspond with the windy atmosphere. Reportedly, we almost got a Flying-type during the development of Pokémon Sun and Moon, but the idea was ultimately scrapped. Ghost-Type Eevee Could Give A Darker Addition Even with Umbreon's darker approach to an Eevee evolution and Pokédex entry, it still has a fairly cutesy approach to it. Eevee's generally adorable nature lends itself to making each Eeveelution pretty cheerful regardless of its type. Surprisingly, many Pokémon fans seem to be desiring a bit more of a cursed version, requesting a Ghost-type Eevee to be the next variety, and even offering mock images of what this terrifying monster would look like. The direction that this kind of Ghost-type evolution could take is still pretty vast, and there certainly is plenty of opportunity to make a spectral version of Eevee's line, perhaps without going so far outside the current theme. Dragon-Type Eevee Would Give The Final Special Type Before Generation 4, Pokémon categorized many Types by either a Physical stat or Special stat. While this method of organizing them is no longer used, so far each Eevee evolution we have gotten has been of a traditionally Special Type. The only exception to this is Sylveon's Fairy-type, which wasn't introduced until after the split took place. Despite being outdated, it does stand to reason that Pokémon may want to collect all the Specials by adding a Dragon-type, the final Special to not have an Eevee version, to the Eeveelution collection. Not only that, but you have to admit that the very idea of a Dragon-type Eevee could look absolutely incredible, plus it would naturally have very high base stat totals and elemental resistance. Finally, a Dragon-type would also make a good contrast to Sylveon's Fairy-type, which was the last Eeveelution we received in Pokémon.
