Emmy-award winning producer behind The Muppet Movie Richard L. O’Connor dies aged 96

EMMY-award winning producer, Richard L. O’Connor, who was behind The Muppet Movie has died aged 96. His family announced that Richard died on July 22 in Palm Desert. The veteran producer landed an Emmy for outstanding children’s programme in 1990 after producing the NBC telefilm A Mother’s Courage: The Mary Thomas Story, starring Alfre Woodard. His extensive Hollywood career also saw him serve as executive in charge of production on Across 110th Streeta and Hickey & Boggs (1972). Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! Other works included Stanley Donen’s Movie, Movie (1978), Borderline (1980), Raise the Titanic (1980), Hard Country (1981) and Barbarosa (1982). Richard also left his mark on a string of television projects, including the explosive miniseries Fatal Vision, which earned him another Emmy nomination. He produced Distant Thunder (1988), as well as miniseries A Death in California, Tom Clancy’s OP Center and Amerika. His TV credits also included the 1991 telefilm Wild Texas Wind, starring country music legends Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson.
