Christa Pike's Lawyers Reveal First Words After Failed Execution

Christa Pike 'Where Am I and Who Are You?!?' First Words Revealed After Botched Execution Published October 7, 2026 10:52 AM PDT | Updated October 7, 2026 11:34 AM PDT Christa Pike woke up Tuesday asking, "Where am I and who are you?" ... just hours after her attorneys say they believed she was brain-dead and would be taken off life support. Her lawyers revealed the stunning turn Wednesday, saying Pike is now conscious and talking -- but she's angry, confused and still trying to understand what happened to her. They say Pike has pneumonia and a blood clot in one arm, can't move either arm and still can't eat because she can't swallow. Her attorneys say they don't know how much function she'll regain. The swelling is also severe -- one attorney compared her hands and arms to an inflated surgical glove -- and she's still shackled at the feet and on her right arm. As you know ... Christa is conscious and speaking following last Wednesday's failed execution -- during which reporters who were in attendance say they could hear her snoring. Christa was rushed to a local hospital shortly after the failed attempt ... where she remained unconscious -- though apparently not completely comatose -- and on a ventilator for several days. Her attorneys say Pike had made peace with dying before the execution ... and they haven't even begun to unpack what waking up in a hospital after surviving it has done to her mentally. Despite her critical condition, Christa is still under full guard at the hospital ... with her lawyers revealing yesterday that she's handcuffed to the bed. We spoke to a doctor who previously examined Christa ... and he told us a medical condition she has may have actually saved her life in this situation. Governor Bill Lee has suspended all executions through the end of the year while authorities conduct a thorough review of exactly what happened to Christa ... prolonging the life of death row inmate Gary Wayne Sutton. Pike's lawyers say they're still pushing Lee to commute her death sentence ... questioning how much more suffering the state intends to put her through.
