Decades, this family has presided over the Dales – their strong bond unrivalled by any other family, there is nothing they wouldn’t do for each other, no law they wouldn’t break. And yet, this family is about to implode. The very fabric of the universe will crumble if the Dingles dissolve. And the person to destroy them all? Tom King (James Chase). It’s been on the cards since Samson’s (Sam Hall) return was announced and Moira (Natalie J Robb) attempted to get the family to pick sides. It was a stupid move, yet Cain (Jeff Hordley) endorsed it. Since then, the cracks have been showing, but Cain pulls an unforgivable stunt that could divide the family forever. Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) receives a thinly veiled threat in the form of a wreath of dead flowers. Cain believes it was her abusive ex Tom who sent it, so he confronts him. Shortly afterwards, Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) arrives at the Dingles to tell them that Tom has been badly beaten, and Cain wastes no time in confessing that he organised the attack. Belle is furious, but there’s further news to upset the family – Samson is no longer being released. It transpires Cain pressured him into attacking Tom, and now he’s facing fresh charges. Belle Dingle is left to pick up the pieces (Picture: ITV) A usually meek and mild Sam (James Hooton) loses it, accusing Cain of not caring about his nephew. Their argument escalates, because of course Cain doesn’t think he did anything wrong, and Sam wallops him. Cain storms off as Sam is left sobbing. Speaking of the damage this does to the once unbreakable family, Eden Taylor-Draper tells Metro: ‘It kind of slashes them down the middle because Moira and Lydia are butting heads, because Matty is Moira’s son and there’s all of that with Samson. ‘Sam and Cain are blown apart and Belle is so angry yet trying to keep them together. She doesn’t want Tom to come between them any more than he has in the past. So, she’s trying to build bridges, but she’s still furious at Cain. It’s a horrible environment at the Dingles’. The brothers’ relationship is in tatters when Sam gets the devastating call that Samson is looking at a long stretch inside for what he’s done. And now Belle has good reason to be paranoid that Tom might come after her. When Sam arrives home, he insists that Cain and Moira move out and Cain pushes the decision on Belle. She snaps – their petty little boy fight is no match for her facing her abusive ex.
