A24 Sets An All-Time Box Office Record With New 100% RT Hit

He has been writing and podcasting about pop culture (especially horror movies) for over a decade at platforms including Blumhouse, Fangoria, Dread Central, The Backlot, and Arrow in the Head. A24 is dancing their way to a major box office record with Club Kid. The 2026 movie was written and directed by I Love LA star Jordan Firstman, who also plays the lead role of Peter, a party promoter who finds himself unexpectedly responsible for his 10-year-old biological son (Reggie Absolom), who he never knew about. The film also stars Cara Delevingne, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Diego Calva, and Colleen Camp. Critics' Club Kid reviews have been universally glowing, earning the movie a perfect, Certified Fresh score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with an average rating of 8.6 out of 10. Per Variety, as of Sunday morning, Club Kid is projected to earn a 3-day debut gross of $390,583 at the domestic box office by the end of its opening weekend. It is only playing in six theaters (ahead of its impending wide expansion near Thanksgiving), giving it a per-screen average of $65,097. If that exact number holds through the end of Sunday, the movie will debut at No. 101 on the Box Office Mojo chart of the Top 200 best debut per-screen averages of all time. This will make it the 11th 2026 release to debut in the Top 200, among which it is the fifth best, behind only the buzzy awards season release La Bola Negra ($69,404), the all-time superhero hit Spider-Man: Brand New Day ($80,252), the meta documentary The History of Concrete ($90,892), and the Charli XCX mockumentary The Moment ($106,990). It is the fifth A24 movie to debut in the Top 200, making 2026 the independent studio's best year ever on that front. Previously, the most A24 titles that debuted in the Top 200 in a single year was three, which happened in 2013 (their first year releasing movies), 2015, and 2019. Below, see a breakdown of their record-breaking five 2026 movies on the chart, and where they are estimated to rank after this weekend: Rank Title Domestic Debut PSA #27 The Moment $106,990 ~#101 Club Kid $65,097 #113 Pillion $60,441 #128 Tony $58,165 #153 The Invite $54,157 It remains to be seen how Club Kid performs during its wide expansion, but that 100% Rotten Tomatoes score should give it a solid boost, especially if early viewers have similar reactions to critics and help build even more word of mouth. While the movie's budget is currently unknown, it most likely did not cost very much to make, so if it follows a similar trajectory to the LGBTQ+ BDSM drama Pillion, which has a Certified Fresh 99% score, it could gross $10.8 million or more by the end of its run, which could be well over its estimated break-even point if it cost less than $4 million. Choose the movie with the higher Rotten Tomatoes score. While Club Kid has already helped A24 set an all-time record in 2026, it is possible that they could push that record even further by adding a sixth title to the Top 200 chart by the end of the year. They have one more 2026 release left, slated to debut on December 11. That would be the buzzy Jesse Eisenberg-directed community theater comedy The Debut, which stars Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti and thus has a strong shot at being a substantial success when it premieres.
