| Freelance Soaps Reporter Published September 25, 2026 10:34am Updated September 25, 2026 10:35am A final goodbye (Picture: ITV) Hearts broke across the nation when Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley), Emmerdale’s beloved perennial underdog, perished last month. Arriving back in 2018, deep in the grips of a heroin addiction and forced to undertake sex work as means to feed her habit, the Dawn of back then and the Dawn that ultimately died on what was supposed to be her wedding day were worlds apart. Dawn had found ultimate happiness in Joe Tate (Ned Porteous), and had planned to wed him, though the machinations of jealous ex Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) and Caleb Miligan (William Ash) ripped the couple apart, with Dawn attempting to flee with Billy and their children. At the last moment, though, she began to question the lies she’d been fed, ultimately returning to Joe and the wedding she’d planned not to attend, reaffirming her love for him and asking him to marry her after all… …right before Jimmy King (Nick Miles) crashed his car into the marquee and mucked the entire thing up. Though Dawn survived the initial collision, being rushed to hospital where she delivered her baby boy, a happy ending was not to be for the long-time survivor and she, well, didn’t survive… Some weeks after her alter-ego’s demise, actress Olivia has taken to Instagram, posting a carousel of images from her long-term run on the soap, featuring a number of past and present Emmerdale stars. ‘8 years of a lovely job,’ she began the caption. ‘This is an absurdly late post, but I have been so blown away by all the lovely messages about Dawn’s exit and it has meant so much! So thank you. And to Teresa who simply messaged ‘You’re dead, get over it’ – I KNOW OKAY.’ Ask Metro Use AI to go deeper into the stories you care about – powered by Metro and trusted publications. We miss you already! (Picture: ITV) Fans were equally moved by the post, also showering Olivia with praise, with @jswaudby writing: ‘So sorry you’ve gone….loved your fantastic acting…you Joe and Billy were amazing. Just hope you get some amazing future roles because I’ll be riveted. Good luck and God bless pet….you’ll be ok’ @samnico_99 added: ‘Gutted that Dawn is gone. You’ve done a brilliant job in portraying a character that has so much thrown at her and her coming fighting to make her life worth living. All the best from Ireland’ @amym1398 said: ‘Still can’t believe they’ve killed dawn off! Incredible actor and amazing character you brought to life! Should be so proud of yourself! Will miss watching you for sure – good luck whatever’s next you’ll defo smash it xxx’ Dawn’s death has turned Joe into a monster (Picture: Shutterstock) Dawn’s death has set Joe on an incredibly dark path, his mind warped with grief and pain, as he looks to wreak vengeance on any and everybody he believes contributed to Dawn’s demise. Taking aim at the Miligan family, he had Ruby (Beth Cordingly) buried alive, before taunting Caleb with what he’d done, before having Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) viciously beaten by Billy after learning of his role in the car crash. In the mean time, Kim Tate (Claire King) and Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) are trying their hardest to convince Joe to go back on his plan to have his and Dawn’s baby adopted, though up ’til now, they’ve had no luck.
