Sign in to your ScreenRant account The Lord of the Rings has already secured its position as the best and most important fantasy franchise in history, and while the books do that in their own right, they have only been helped along the way by some excellent adaptations. Peter Jackson's film trilogy still stands above the rest in that regard, and millions still watch those movies regularly, decades since their original release. Given the track record of direct movie tie-in video games, it wouldn't have been a surprise if the adaptations of those aforementioned movies in interactive form didn't hit anything like the same heights. Unbelievably, that was the case, and The Lord of the Rings' journey from book to film to game was a remarkably consistent one. So much so that fans have remained fascinated with them ever since, and there's a real push for them to return, in light of recent events. Over on Reddit, one user shared a post confirming the news that Aspyr Media is planning to release more Lord of the Rings remasters, after the presumed success of War in the North's re-arrival on the scene. There are plenty of viable candidates, but fans in the responses were very keen to see The Two Towers return as soon as possible. The Two Towers didn't quite hit the same heights as its sequel, but with a few additions and changes, it would have been one of the best action games of its type, ever. "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers was one of my favorites when I was like 7yrs old," one comment read. While another added, "Would be insane too if they had the remaster with co-op for The Two Towers like RotK had, but probably won't happen. If RotK re-releases, that will be an instant buy and I will play it with mates online instead of through Parsec on a GameCube/PS2 emulator. "ASPYR ! Give me The Two Towers and Return of the King Remasters and my life is yours!" a third said. "Legit best LotR games of all time. The co-op was insanely good too. Hopefully the re-release will have online active (coop for The Two Towers as a new addition would go hard too)," another said. While The Two Towers movie rarely beats out Fellowship and Return in conversations about the best of the three movies, The Two Towers game is consistently hailed as a multiplayer banger, and we'd be inclined to agree. It really would be special to see this game come back with a few modern touches. The fact remains that, even outside of the direct movie releases, there are plenty of other exciting options for potential remakes and remasters of The Lord of the Rings. The Third Age is a turn-based effort from the same era that did some fascinating things with a narrative that runs alongside the main story from the books and films. There are also later efforts like The Lord of the Rings: Conquest, but honestly, having any of them back would feel like a warm hug from an old friend at this point.
