Emmerdale ‘monster’ Kim left ‘bereaved’ after triple loss – and now she’s alone

Kim’s dream of a happy family is slipping away (Picture: ITV) Kim Tate (Claire King) is having a pretty rotten time of it at the minute in Emmerdale. The family she’s amassed around herself is crumbling into dust. The loss of Dawn (Olivia Bromley); Joe Tate’s (Ned Porteous) love and the daughter of her own deceased ex-husband, Will Taylor (Dean Andrews), has struck such a massive blow into the usually-fragile clan. Before she died, Dawn gave birth to Joe’s son, a baby Joe is absolutely refusing to have anything to do with and plans to have adopted… …and speaking of adoption, the notion of baby Tate being handed away has caused the trauma of Kim’s past – namely, her giving up her own daughter, DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) – tormenting her further. Thea’s closer by than she thinks, though, and rather than planning a heart-warming reunion, she’s plotting a vicious revenge against the woman that she believes abandoned her. The loss of Dawn has hit Kim hard… (Picture: ITV) …and with Graham gone and Joe in a state, Kim’s alone (Picture: ITV) ‘She’s had this dream of a family: she loves her family, she’s always been protective of her family so to see it fall apart is devastating for her,’ Claire explained. ‘She doesn’t know which way to turn because everybody seems to be leaving the nest.’ With Joe’s decision to have his son adopted, Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), Kim’s ex-husband/employee/lover/deadly enemy and Joe’s father figure – it really is a complicated family – also vows to leave. Ask Metro Use AI to go deeper into the stories you care about – powered by Metro and trusted publications. ‘Part of the agreement that Joe’s made and Graham’s made is that he will leave if he insists on having this baby adopted,’ Claire told us. ‘This has left Kim bereaved to a certain extent, because the man she likes, has worked with and has been married to – even though there’s little trust between them at the moment and they have to rebuild that – they are allies, and he is now leaving. ‘Joe’s almost left because he is in such a state, so Kim is kind of left on her own in Home Farm.’ Thea sees another side of Kim… (Picture: Mark Bruce/ITV) So, with the residents of Emmerdale’s famous ‘big house’ so fractured, having her secret daughter gunning for her only stands to make things worse, right? Well, according to Claire, there’s an initial thawing between the two when Thea finds Kim at Will’s grave side. ‘She’s talking to Will and saying how much she loved Dawn and she couldn’t protect her and she was so sad about it,’ Claire said. ‘She felt guilty that this had come to pass, and she couldn’t do anything about her death. Then Thea arrives and she’s vocalising this to Thea, and Thea then thinks ‘Oh. She has actually got a soft side. ‘Maybe she is not the monster I thought she was.’ Because she has come back to get her believing that she has been this monster, this evil woman for twenty seven years. Kim and Thea will rebuild their relationship and Kim will have a shot at the family she so craves, right? Right?! Wrong. A further interaction changes Thea’s mind right back. ‘Kim’s found out about the baby being adopted. There’s nothing that she can do about it. Joe is taking it into hand. He’s organising it all. ‘Kim’s devastated. She vocalises this to Lydia [Dingle (Karen Blick)] in the pub which is overheard by Serena [Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) and Thea. ‘She basically says ‘There’s nothing I can do. The baby’s gone. That’s the end of the story’. And it makes her sound really harsh and uncaring, like she doesn’t care about the baby at all when in fact it’s the opposite. ‘She does care, but there’s nothing she can do and it’s her frustration that’s coming out. This is misinterpreted, so Thea swings back again to thinking she was right in thinking Kim is a monster.’ Claire says it’ll be a while before Kim finds peace (Picture: ITV) Right back to square one, it looks like! But with Kim set to learn the truth sooner rather than later, how does Claire envisage the reunion? ‘Kim will be over the moon that Thea tracked her down but she will be very, very shocked to realise that it’s someone that she’s actually been around for a few weeks. ‘I think Thea would be welcomed into Home Farm with open arms. Kim would have to watch how she goes, but no doubt Thea has seen her rap sheet and knows what she’s like and they’re going to have to be quite open about it. ‘So it will be interesting to see how that plays out, and Kim having to be more honest. ‘It’s a very rocky road ahead for Kim. There are ups and downs. There are twists and turns as usual.
