Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero's Big DLC Is Bringing Back A Very Strange Goku Transformation Published Jul 26, 2026, 6:01 PM EDT George is the Lead News Editor for TheGamer, and has been working in the industry since 2021 after graduating from the University of South Wales with a bachelor's degree in Journalism. He has also previously written for RPG Site, WhatCulture, and PlayStation Lifestyle. George is an expert on platformers, action games, and fighters, but tends to play as many releases as possible. This hands-on experience lets him dive into gaming communities and follow the latest trends. Some of the games George has extensively covered first-hand include Dead Rising, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Ninja Gaiden 4. One of the most unique transformations in Dragon Ball history is making its way into Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, marking the second time a game has ever included it. Unsurprisingly, considering how important they are to the series, Dragon Ball has a lot of transformations. From all four levels of Super Saiyan to the more recent God and Blue variants, Goku and the gang have been shown powering up to many different levels in the past 42 years, with new forms even popping up all this time later. As much as I love seeing Super Saiyan, though, unarguably the most interesting transformations in Dragon Ball are the ones that don't get talked about quite as much. The best example of this by far is False Super Saiyan, a fan-named transformation that appeared in a single movie and was quickly dropped. Now, 25 years later, that form is making a comeback. False Super Saiyan Is Coming To Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Super Limit Breaking Neo It's Not Quite As Playable As Everyone Thinks, Though For those who don't know, False Super Saiyan is a transformation that very briefly appeared in the Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug movie, and featured many of the same elements as the real Super Saiyan. It's based on rage, sees Goku's hair change with the form, and even has the same sort of powerful aura as Super Saiyan, albeit with unique white eyes. False Super Saiyan appeared in the Lord Slug movie about two weeks before the true form was introduced in the manga, meaning that the false version was basically altogether dropped and left for fans to mourn. That made it quite a surprise when the latest trailer for Sparking Zero's big DLC confirmed that the form is coming back for the game. The trailer shows that Goku can turn into False Super Saiyan while wearing one of his new costumes in the DLC, a tattered outfit that comes from the Lord Slug movie. It's pretty clear that the form is just part of an ultimate move and not a playable transformation like some hoped, but it's still a very cool inclusion. It's also yet another sign that Dragon Ball is getting a little less restrictive lately, and is more able to include such a deepcut from the series' past. It's a small inclusion in the grand scheme of things, but still a treat for long-term Dragon Ball fans like myself who remember all the AMVs about the real Super Saiyan form. Dragon Ball: Sparking!
