By transforming the paper into a simple pinhole eclipse viewer, you will have safe way to experience one of nature’s most spectacular sights, without needing eclipse glasses. The clever hack projects an image of the sun onto a sheet of paper or another light-coloured surface, allowing people to watch the eclipse unfold without looking directly at it. Simply, grab your National Lottery playslip or ticket and fold it in half lengthways and again horizontally. Then, carefully make a small pinhole in the middle of the playslip or ticket, piercing all the way through. For the next step, you will want to stand with your back to the sun, never looking directly at the eclipse. Hold up your folded playslip or ticket and let the sunlight pass through the pinhole onto a white sheet of paper or another light-coloured surface. And instead of gazing into the sky, you will want to look down and watch the projected image. Make sure you only look at the project image and never at the sun through the pinhole. You should also avoid using ordinary sunglasses to observe the eclipse, and ensure that children are supervised while viewing.
