Spectators at a showing of Spider-Man: Brand New Day at the Plaza Bocagrande cinema in Cartagena, Colombia, on August 2 reportedly fled the auditorium after the overpowering smell filled the room. Footage shared online appears to show dozens of people – including one person in a Spidey suit – covering their noses and mouths as they walked out into the corridors following the interruption. While it is still unclear what exactly caused the foul smell, some cinema-goers have claimed that it may have been a prank involving a stink bomb instead of flatulence. This isn’t just a little thing, it’s like chemicals.’ Cinema staff said that they did not identify who was responsible for the smell. While the screening was not officially cancelled, many audience members did not choose to return to their seats. The cinema, however, has continued to operate normally. The latest Spider-Man films, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, sees Tom Holland return as Peter Parker alongside Zendaya and newcomer Sadie Sink. So far, the film has received rave reviews, with Metro’s senior film critic Tori Brazier giving it four stars.
