The new Lou Barlow-led Dinosaur Jr. single reminds me so much of Pearl Jam. It makes sense; Eddie Vedder came of age at just the right time to be smitten with Dinosaur, and both acts swear allegiance to Neil Young. The resemblance between Vedder and Barlow has been pointed out before, but I've never been struck by it quite like I am on "Blowin' Up," the latest preview from Dinosaur's forthcoming There Near."Blowin' Up," which follows lead single "Several Got Away," is one of two Barlow-penned songs on the new LP. On second listen, it's quickly becoming one of my favorite Barlow tracks, a folky, midtempo fuzz-rock tune taking aim at our current administration's "death cult." Barlow sounds weary and disgusted as he concludes, "You want to see blood and guts/ Come on." Add it to the protest anthem canon.Listen below. There Near is out 8/28 on Jagjaguwar. Pre-order it here.
