Did you know before Delhi-6, Masakali was Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om song?

What if one of the most-loved songs from Delhi-6 had actually found its way into Om Shanti Om? Filmmaker Farah Khan has revently revealed that AR Rahman originally composed the song Masakali for her Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, even though she had no idea where she would use it in the film.Farah shared the little-known story during the latest episode of her YouTube vlog, where she visited music composer Vishal Dadlani at his farmhouse. As the two reminisced about their long association, Farah opened up about how the music of Om Shanti Om came together.According to Farah, Rahman was her first choice for the film’s music. She told Vishal that she was planning to approach Rahman and that he and Shekhar Ravjiani would be her second choice if things did not work out.Vishal, however, was hopeful that Farah’s collaboration with Rahman would happen. He even suggested that he and Shekhar could work as assistants on the project. Farah then dropped the surprise detail. “The first song which Rahman made for Om Shanti Om was Masakali! I don’t know where I was going to put it, but I love that song and love that word,” she recalled.The song, of course, eventually found a home in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Delhi-6, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor. The film released in 2009, a year after Om Shanti Om. The revelation also led Farah and Vishal to look back at the music that eventually became one of the biggest talking points of Om Shanti Om. Vishal joked that the film would still have had great music even if he and Shekhar had never come on board. Farah, in her own cheeky way, replied that because of the duo, “only the music was epic”.Vishal went on to describe Om Shanti Om as the last great traditional masala Bollywood musical. He also recalled how people continue to be fascinated by the film’s elaborate visuals, particularly Dhoom Taana.“I still get reels explaining how we made Dhoom Tana without AI at that time when there was no AI,” he said, referring to the elaborate visual effects and choreography in the song.Released in 2007, Om Shanti Om was directed by Farah and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment.
