Bruce Campbell Reveals He Has About Five Years to Live With Cancer

Bruce Campbell has revealed in a recent interview that doctors have given him five years to live “give or take” after a cancer diagnosis. While promoting his film Ernie & Emma on The Adam Carolla Show, Campbell said “I’m in a five year prognosis” while not specifying the type of cancer he has. “The current thing is a five year deal,” the actor and director stated. Carolla asked if “the prognosis is you have five years to live?” And Campbell confirmed, saying “give or take.” “I’ve decided though pretty specifically to live with it not die with it,” Campbell said. The Evil Dead star talked about how he’s staying focused on living and moving forward. He’s told himself “‘I’m gonna live my life,’” Campbell said. “I’m moving on. I got a movie to promote,” he told Carolla. “I’m free and clear when I promote this movie mentally.” “The cancer rabbit hole is enormous,” Campbell added. “You can go into focus groups of 10,000 guys who have exactly what you have. I won’t touch it with a 10- foot pole.” While he’s mentally well now, the psychological aspect of the cancer diagnosis has affected him. “Aside from the medical crap, it’s a fascinating thing that takes place because it messes with your head too,” he said. “Cancer creeped me out because of the ancillary stuff that it does . . . You don’t die from cancer. You die from what cancer does to you.” Campbell described the early days after a cancer diagnosis as ones that can be overwhelming with information while considering ways to treat the disease and addressing what the condition is doing to the body. “It’s a whack-a-mole life, literally,” Campbell said. “Right now, I’m between whacks,” Campbell added. “I feel perfect.” Campbell, 68, unveiled his cancer diagnosis in March, saying the disease was “‘treatable’ not ‘curable’” but reassuring his fans that “I am a tough old son-of-a-bitch and I have great support, so I expect to be around a while.”
